Dash

My friend has a late 70's early 80's truck that someone butchered the dash on, I don't know the exact year ,but will I have to find out the exact year to try to find him a dash?I haven't talked to him about it,I just thought of it and figured I'd ask ya'll guys if anyone had one.

well its either a 73-78 style . 79-80 style or 81- 87 style . Is it the metal part( skeleton) or are you talking about the dash pad itself? DAVE

Thanks for the info crossy
Now I know there were 3 styles of dash covers. Now when someone wants me to look for it, I have a better idea to insure they don't get sent the incorrect one. Any other main differences in the years I need to know about?

I think a 79-80 dash pad cover would work in a 73-78 application, it just has a opening on top for the vin id, its where the 81-87 has the curl in the end for the dash trim and the dash bezel area angle is slightly different. Correct me guys if I am wrong.

yes, you are right. the 81up dash pad will not work with the older models. there are also bezel differences that will not allow it to fit right.

the dash itself is spot welded at the windshield mount, yet bolted to the cab at the sides. (73-80 models). not sure on the 81up.

It's the dash skeleton itself, they hacked it up for a radio and god knows what else.I'll ask him and find out exactly what year it is.I'm thinking it is a 81-87.
