It has been a long time and need help/answers

Its been a couple years after a long hard divorce but picked up a 1987 short wide and it needs a gas tank and my question is can I put the gas tank out of my 1985 short step with a Carb into the 1987 that is a this set up? Thanks all and its nice to be back

Divorce, been there done that 30 years ago.

I'm not sure on the fuel tank. The 87 probably has an in tank pump. Not knowing your money situation, new tanks are pretty cheap, under a $100.00 on Rockauto.com. There are others on eBay reasonably priced.

Im going to fuel cell my 85 and the tank is mint in it so if it can work why not use it in the 87 ya no

If I recall correctly, the 87 has baffled tanks because of fuel injection. I do not think retro fitting it would be a good idea. I could be wrong.

You can run the '85 tank in your '87.
You will not want to run less than 1/4 of a tank(which we shouldn't do anyway) because the lack of baffling can allow the pump to get starved of fuel when cornering or going up/down steep grades.

Hell I can barely afford to keep my tank 1/4 full.
Yesterday I filled both tanks, $90. Crazy

I feel your pain..
I have a '87 V20 and while I do my best to keep it over a quarter(to help with pump life), I do inevitably run it down to 1/8.
PO installed a non-baffled tank on one side and I do have occasions where the truck stumbles or dies on a hard right or left turn, or on an incline when I'm getting low on fuel.
Just some food for thought
