wheel questions

A friend of mine gave me this set of 15X8 chrome rims.. They are in pretty good shape and plan to use them for now.

First question: The bolt pattern is correct for my truck, however, the center hole is larger then my axle/hubs and old wheels. See pics below.

I have these on the rear right now and see no issue with running them this way, but not sure if Im overlooking something.

Second question: These wheels had a center smooth cap at one time. I have similar rally wheels on my Tahoe and the center caps almost fit the wheels on my 61. Is there these caps are measured for a replacement? They have 3 small nubs that hold the caps on.

Thanks for your help!!

Re: wheel questions

Here is a pic of the caps from my Tahoe.. These are about 1/4 inch too small.

My Tahoe wheels have the 3 nubs also. So a style like this is what I need.

Re: wheel questions

The larger center hole won't make any difference. I've run wheels like that for years without vibration or tire wear problems. I never even heard of hub centric wheels until about 10-15 years ago, so at least from my experience, lug centric was how everything was engineered back in the old days.

I think the caps designed for those wheels were a somewhat flat baby moon shape, and were probably unique to that wheel manufacturer. Something different may or may not fit correctly.

Can you provide the latching diameter of the cap you have, and try and get a measurement on what the wheel needs? If you can post what you think is needed I'll see what I can find, or perhaps someone else may already have an answer.

Re: wheel questions

Thanks for the reply! I didn't think it was a big deal, but wanted to make sure.

I measured across the cap I have for my Tahoe it its about 1/8 to 1/16" short of 7". And these caps are about a 1/4 too small.. So it I found something around 7.25" that would be close.

Re: wheel questions

I just bought Crager smoothies with baby moons for my 65. Center hole is larger, fits and rides just fine. I don't sweat it.

I believe ralley wheels use different size hub caps. At least most places I see caps for sale indicate the ralley caps don't fit baby moon/smoothie wheels.

My Cragars came with moons. 3 fit snug, one was loose. The loose one got expanded all the way around to a snug fit with plyers.

Find one rally and one moon you like in Classic, or some other catalog for $14 bucks each and try them on. Return the one that don't fit and buy three more of the ones that do fit.
