Pulsing/Surging Cruise Control

Cruise control pulses, or surges up and down when engaged. Sometimes it smooths out, other times not. '88 TBI 350.

Any ideas?

I'm going to pull a vacuum on the cruise "solenoid" this weekend and see if it holds. Might just be a leaky vacuum line somewhere.

This would be my guess... not holding vacuum @ some point in the system.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: Pulsing/Surging Cruise Control

Mine cuts out on the downhill travel, will not hold below 45 mph. I replaced all the vacuum lines, actuator, brake switch, everything but the control lever on the column (1983 model year only type). That switch/lever was not available until recently, and it is too much to warrant replacement. There is a circuit board in a red plastic box under the dash, but that has to be sent into the aftermarket manufacturer and they are supposed to be able to repair it.

Converting to electric cruise I think makes more economic sense - vacuum is an unreliable method IMHO.
