More info on original motor and color

I have been reading over the Vin number section in the FAQ trying to figure out more info on my 1965 C10.

I am sure the correct info is somewhere on this site but I have not been able to find it yet.

On the plate inside my driver side it has the following listed;

Color = 505. What color was this originally? I found a color chart for another year and if I read it right that was Dark Green. Is that my original color?

WB = 115. I assume this means Wheel Base?

How do you find out what the original motor was? When I was looking at the Vin Number section it appears that my truck is 2wd, SWB 1/2 Ton, Pickup, 1965 and made in Atlanta.

I am not sure how to find out the motor size though.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes 505 is dark green . The vin number will tell you the truck type longbox or short fleetside or stepside also the plant where the truck was made and the vin seq. Number . But the vin will not tell you size of motor being a 65 it is 230 292 or 283 v-8 .

Re: More info on original motor and color

Thank you. Do you know what color 559AD is?

Do you know where to find out what color codes for 1964 and 1965 ?

My 1965 has 283V8. I was told it was original to the truck.

My father in law's 1964 has a 350 which I know was not stock.

Look on the engine block for some numbers. They should be stamped on the front of the pass side deck. Right at the base of the head. It may be really dirty tho. As long as the block has never been surfaced, it may contain part of your vin and would let you know if original.

Tomorrow I hope to be able to look. I did try to look the other day and was not able to find it. Hopefully after I gunk the motor I will have better luck finding it.

I have found tons of great info on these older trucks on the GM Heritage Center Website. In particular, they have free downloads of Vehicle Information - click here. Choose the Chevrolet Trucks (2nd Chevrolet option) and just find your year truck. Download the adobe file and you will have hours of great reading. It's a great reference to store on your computer and it's free!

Re: More info on original motor and color

Well I cant seem to find a plate or numbers on this motor. I removed the alt to try and see but could not find anything.

A mechanic that my father in law knows came by and he said I had a 283 with Power Pack Heads.

What exactly is power pack heads and how would he know just by looking at them?

I was not there when he came by.
