Water pump leaking on a 5.3

How tough is it to replace a water pump on a 5.3 in the car? Remember it's in a 92 S10! I've tightened all of my clamps and can't seem to find any leaks on the hoses, it's gotta be the water pump.

Re: Water pump leaking on a 5.3

The leak could just be the gaskets. They have a been know to leak. Try snugging the 6 mouting bolts up.

Don't they use O rings for gaskets?

They use metal gaskets with orings built in. By the looks of it it is just a few hose clamps and one bolt and the rad it out of the way.

Re: Water pump leaking on a 5.3

Super easy to replace. Just need to take off every other accessory, but I did mine in 20 minutes (in my full size truck). My water pump was bad after I finished my swap. 80,000 miles on motor.

I'm guessing a 5.3 in that little truck makes for some fun times!

Re: Water pump leaking on a 5.3

Yes it does, I think I might have been just as happy with a 4.8. Traction is a problem-that and a 260 lb. RIGHT FOOT

Re: Water pump leaking on a 5.3

I was going to say, I bet those high RPM burn outs are the root cause for the water pump failure.
