Picked up a 71 K20
I didn't really need it but the price seemed reasonable so I decided to look at it. This was a couple weeks ago and right along the route I take to get to my Mom's in Iowa. We had a verbal agreement since I didn't have my truck then and the original 292 was tucked away in a corner of the barn.
I was able to get it last night after work- left home here at 7:15 and got home a tad after midnight. Its not in great shape, but it seems to have a neat configuration of options and the frame is not rusty. The frame will need a little patching at the rear where the bumper bolts on but that shouldn't be an issue. I'm thinking I will fix it up to be functional but not fancy and use for a property maintenance/odd job truck. Clean title and SPID/Vinplate/Frame all match. I should let it sit though until I get my 72 done. It may also get a plow put on it since it has nice options useful for that. Pics if it quits raining.

Re: Picked up a 71 K20
Here are some pics. Body is junk (old repaint with rust and filler all over) but it has some goodies and the roof with original marker lamps has no rust. Also frame was extended at one time for a flatbed and shortened back to stock. Not sure what I'll do with it yet. Would be fun to take it back to the way it was with the 292 and neat options but she'll need a ton of work.

Re: Picked up a 71 K20
More pics. 16 inch one piece rims in the back but they aren't a good offset. Looks like the original offset 292 crossmember. Also has a Chelsea pto off the SM465.

Re: Picked up a 71 K20
I have a question- why isn't Z53 (ammeter-oil-temp) gauges on the SPID? Does the tach option require that?

Re: Picked up a 71 K20
RPO U16 Tachometer includes the Z53 gauge package thus superceeds it on the SPID.

Re: Picked up a 71 K20
I have though how I've never seen a white with green interior and this one has it. I may have seen some years ago but wasn't paying attention to such details till 30 or so years ago. Looks like a decent find

Whats curious is that the steering column in my truck looks dark olive but the SPID code is 612 (medium green). Perhaps the column never matched the vinyl in the 612 trucks. My truck had the seat and door panels replaced with red ones.

Re: Picked up a 71 K20
I'm thinking this truck would have had a "before its time" monochromatic look. Being a custom, it would have been solid white with a white bumper and mirrors. Anyone have a pic of that scheme?

Re: Picked up a 71 K20
Jud, The column looks like the correct color. Here is a 72 GMC Med. Green interior. As you can see the column is a dark green that matches the dash pad as does yours. For the column Ditzler calls out #42850 Dark Green for the Med Green interiors vs #44384 Dark Olive for the Olive Green interior.
The flat upper dash paint is #44392 and the door panel color is #2208 a match to the Med. Green exterior color. Don't have many plain white trucks but here is a very basic white stepside that should help.
