62 rear suspension options
Hello All,
I have been reading and reading and seemed to have confused myself more than when I started What are my options for upgrading the rear suspension in a 62? I have looked at maintaining stock with new parts, upgrading only the axle to a 12 bolt, or even a 4 link (both parallel and triangulated)... I would like some more modern performance out of the rear as the front will be out of a 73 but it is still a truck and I do still on planning to haul stuff. Also, not looking to bag it and will only be doing a mild drop. If someone could chime in or point me in the direction to do further reading I would much appreciate it! Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 62 rear suspension options
If by "modern performance" you mean faster, then there a gears for the rear so you can cruise at highway speed. If you still plan on hauling stuff then I'd stick with the stock springs. I'm running Jeep springs for a drop but I don't haul anything with it. Many vendors sell drop springs but I'd don't know the load limit on them.

I don't mean just faster when I say modern. I am also looking for better handling, ride improvements, cornering, parts availability, etc...
I actually like the 3.9's I have in there right now with the Overdrive. |

Re: 62 rear suspension options
Bags are not just for lowering, think as an adjustable spring on the fly. Trailing arms are very good platform, NASCAR used them as well.
A 12 bolt is strong a 10 bolt is still 1/2 ton. I run a 1970 12-bolt 3.73 posi with a 295/45/18 rear tire(28").
