60-62 c10 rear tank conversion
I've checked the FAQ section and searched this topic, but I want to ask just in case I missed some great tech somewhere along the way.
Since most folks are running "later" open channel style frames (63 & up) and I'm working on a stock 62 C10 frame which is wider in the area of rear frame rails where the tank might be going. I'm reaching out to those who have done this on the 60-62's with success. I have a Brother's Rear Tank Conversion Kit and I've checked their on-site tutorial... so you get the picture. Can anyone help me out with more info / pics / links ??? Thank you - rg |

Re: 60-62 c10 rear tank conversion
Tanks Inc. has a 'universal' steel tank that fits like a glove between the two rearmost frame crossmembers.I welded two pieces of 3/16" metal strips over the top of them for the tank topush up against w tank straps across the bottom. They also stock the correct ohm sending unit for using our factory fuel guage. I'm at work so I don't have the part numbers on hand.

Re: 60-62 c10 rear tank conversion
My camera battery died... so pics are on hold.
I have set the truck up with 2 inch spacers under the bed floor raising it 2 inches to clear the differential in case it bottoms out. With the rear tank mocked up in the truck I have @ 9 1/2 inches of ground clearance from the bottom of the tank to the ground. Anyone else have a blazer style tank or rear tank that close or closer??? Tanks - rg |

Re: 60-62 c10 rear tank conversion
Thanks I got the rear most cross member removed and mounted where I think it should be and started figuring out the straps for top.
I'm considering some spare underhood braces that I saved mounted across the top of the crossmembers and centered in the tank's top grooves or indentations. Then the straps from kit underneath also across the crossmembers in the indentations on the bottom of the tank. I'm trying to tuck it up into the space above the stock floor height from raising things 2 inches for as much ground clearance as I can get from this. pics and update tomorrow - THANKS guys. rg |

60-62 C10 rear tank conversion with PICS
I think I got this tank mounted up (as best as I can figure out).
I got some rubber strips cut from a big truck inner tube that I will use everywhere it makes contact. I had the bed sills on with 2" spacers and it cleared those. I had the rear bumper backets on too so I could see about working around those with everything on. I'm just a bit concerned about the amount of ground clearance - but at least the pumpkin will hit first. What are the small diameter tubes off the tank for? Does this get vented to atmosphere somehow? Tanks - rg |

Re: 60-62 c10 rear tank conversion
Looks like you got it figured out, it looks nice in there, have you got the filler neck figured out yet ? On my 66 we relocated the filler neck to the right rear of the top of the tank and put a lid in the floor. it worked out well. Oh yes if you are going to put in a computer controled fuel injected engine be sure and put a in tank fuel pump , it will save you a lot of trouble (I went through 4 remote pumps before installing it in the tank instead of inline...) Kieth
ps I closed off one and left one open, I think you should close both of them off we cannot fill the tank up all the way without it smelling up the garage. The next time we drop the tank we plan to block them both off, 1 tube was for the filler neck and the other returned to the carb (TBI) I think they should be blocked off. The older trucks vented through the filler cap. Last edited by kieth; 06-03-2013 at 05:23 PM. |

Thank you Keith - I have a idea on the filler neck just not sure if it will work yet. Got to figure out the venting too.
Appreciate the comments - rg |

Re: 60-62 c10 rear tank conversion
Brothers and thanks for the compliments.
LM65 - I haven't been doing too much to the truck lately between the weather and my schedule, but it's ready to go in when I'm done tinkering with rear brakes and e-brake cables. Hope to get it wrapped up soon. rg |
