Thumbs down Dead oil pressure gauge after new sending unit installed. 1986 K10 HELP!

alright i bought my 1986 Chevy K10 and the factory oil pressure gauge never worked, and the needle sits past 60psi, as if it were dead. well it had a 2 prong sending unit in it, so i put the CORRECT single prong pressure sensor in the block, and the oil pressure gauge still sits in the same spot maxed out at 60PSI. what else could be wrong with it? i cleaned the plug area up when it was installed. here's what im talking about.

it wont move or operate, its all plugged in correctly.

Got a link or picture of the sender you installed? Might be the one the sends a signal to the fuel injection instead of oil pressure gauge. Was it small and easy to install? If so, probably wrong. I made this mistake on mine...

Along with the above, the guage sending unit is behind the distributor and is your typical large can sender.

You may have the wrong sender. You can get senders in various Ω ranges for different gauges.
GM oil pressure senders should be 0Ω=0psi to 90Ω=60psi.

The aftermarket oil pressure gauge on my ATV is backwards 240Ω at 0psi and 33Ω at 40psi.
Ford used several Ω ranges.
VDO likes 10Ω=0psi and 180Ω=150psi.

Re: Dead oil pressure gauge after new sending unit installed. 1986 K10 HELP!

If the gauge wire is open (broken) then the gauge will sit at 3:00 like yours. According to the Schematics the engine compartment oil sender wire could be Tan or Blue.
You can pull the oil pressure gauge without removing the instrument cluster bucket.
Set a meter set to continuity buzzer or one of the Ω scales.
The spring clips form a point down triangle. The point is Ground, IGN is toward Driver door, and Sender is toward passenger door.
Check with the meter leads from the sender connector to sender signal spring clip.
