Transmissiong experts plz help!?!?!?!

I have asked quite a few people and shops if I need to buy a short tail or long tail transmission for my truck. For the life of me, I can not get a clear answer. My truck is an 83 gmc swb.

My 85 short bed came with a 350c (lockup) long tail transmission. The mounting will be the same. It is the length of the drive shaft that will dictate what was in it before. Are you replacing one or did you get a truck that didn't have a tranny in it or what is the story here. Do you have a drive shaft already? If so what is the length of it.

If you can get that then I will go out and measure mine. If you need both trans and drive shaft then you can get either one and put it in. I think there is a bit more to the story here that needs to be told to maybe get a better/bigger picture of what is going on. Are you just wanting to go as original as you can?

No sir, I lost the tranny in my truck just last friday. I thought I would be best just to measure the length of the tranny case to the end yoak, and start looking from there.

There are three lengths of th350 transmissions. 6, 9, and 12 inch. You measure the bolt on extension housing to tell which one you need.
