Any Idea What This Weird Fuel Dohicky on the passenger side by the tailgate does?
I can't for the life of me understand what such a device would accomplish:

Its part of the vapor evaporation system, the other part is the charcoal canister, located up front by the engine

It is the vent collection and recovery point for the rear mounted tank on vehicles with the Evap. Emission control. Overall it is similar in function to the cab tank vent system. Take a look at your 70 service manual.

+1. The small plastic tank I have never seen before either It and its bracket do not look factory to me. If not, wonder why it was added - just as a replacement connector?
