Smog Delete
So i was cleaning my engine bay last month after installing a new alternator and started wondering why i need the smog pump. I'm not required to do emissions testing in Illinois for my '82 454 C30 and would like to cut down on the clutter in the engine bay. So has anyone had much experience removing it and then finding the right belt to only drive the alternator versus the alternator and pump? Thanks!

Re: Smog Delete
If its working properly why remove it?
It won't make any noticable differance in power on your 454. If you do remove it just use a piece of rope to get an aprox. length for the belt and take it to your parts store. They should be able to match it to a belt.

Re: Smog Delete
Well the plan is to install headers sometime in the future and i would rather not have to transfer the worn and rusty smog piping going into the manifold into the header. And i'm a simpler is better kind of guy i guess.

Re: Smog Delete
Is the belt a ribbed one? My '86 was and I read 6k523 on the belt.

Re: Smog Delete
They did make trucks without smog pumps in earlier years. Just ask the parts place for a belt from the same motor without a smog pump. Even if its a 72, the motors have been the same since the 60s.

Re: Smog Delete
+1 for 74 Stepside's advise. I pulled my smog pump and the parts store had the correct belt for the smog pump delete.
