cowl vent question

When the cowl vent is closed is it supposed to be even with the cowl or does it stick up a little? I have the rubber gasket not the sponge gasket and the lip of the vent sets on top of the rubber seal which makes the vent set a bit higher than the cowl. Is the outside lip of the vent supposed to fit around the outside of the seal?

The seal should fit in a channel around the opening and the outside lip of the vent lid should fit down in a groove/space that is around that. I'm at work so I can't get a photo or two but will try to remember when I get home.

The one we installed stuck up just a bit... maybe a 1/16"..

Looking at a couple of my cabs they do stick up a tad but you should be able to adjust things so the vent sits level when it is tight. Having the mechanism free and lubricated helps too

What worked for me,,, I ditched the stiff rubber gasket and used a 3/16 x 3/8rubber foam door gasket from Home Depot. The new gasket compresses a bit and the vent now sets very close to even with the cowl. Hope this helps others.

Okay, I have a follow-up question. My truck did not have a cowl gasket when I purchased it. I purchased the rubber one and noticed that it had a flat side and the other side had a raised lip on it. I didn't see any need to apply adhesive since with the cowl closed tightly there should be no way water can get it, right? Wrong! Got caught in the rain the other day and took a shower! I installed the gasket with the raised side down, so should this side be up? And, am I correct about not needing adhesive? The vent sits down flat with the cowl and closes very tightly.

My rubber gasket was flat on both sides and just too thick and didn't compress. To answer your question unless there's a groove in the cowl that the bump in the rubber fits into, I would have glued the flat side down to the cowl, (bump up)

Yep, raised side up, When I checked I found out that I never put the gasket I bought in my truck It's probably shriveled up in one of the sheds by now
