black or red wheels?

ok, below is a pic of my 65 beater. i am debating what color to powder coat the smoothies on the truck currently, as i don't want the chrome. this truck already has some red detail inside and i just picked up a red 88-98 seat to put in it, so i am gonna stick with the black and red theme, that seems so popular for other people. i will not be using the smoothie center cap. instead i picked up chrome bullet style slid thru caps and chrome lug nuts. also, keep in mind, i will likely be painting the front bumper and grille, gloss white or possibly using a slightly beat up aluminum grille that i already have.

so question is, gloss red or gloss black? i am leaning toward gloss black with a thin red pinstripe on the lip edge. opinons?

Hmmm, Black w/red pinstripe, or Red w/black pinstripe? I think if you're gonna have red accents, go red w/black pinstripe

I am partial to red but black would look good with the white walls and spider caps

I think the child in the backround likes the chrome. Probably should stay with them to keep the kids happy.

More and more I am liking the black idea with the touch of red so it won't look as flat black cookie cutterish. LOL

This truck is what got me thinking about the black wheels.

Re: black or red wheels?

Personally, I'd probably choose red just for contrast. However, if you do black wheels with red pinstripe along with some other pinstriping, lettering, or graphics with a touch of red, I think that might look cool as well.

not exactly what you're doing, but should give you some more references:

Re: black or red wheels?

are you going with trim rings? if so, then the chrome ring, bullet cap and lug nuts would look nice with a red rims and your truck being black makes the wheels POP even more. You have red accents already and this would tie them together.

just my .02

NICE TRUCK!!! when can i see this in person? Im in Stafford.

Re: black or red wheels?

If you are buying wheels and then having them powdercoated just paint 2 of them red and 2 of them black with rattle can before powder coating. see which one you like better and then have them powder coated the color you choose. The powder coater will blast them any way so he will not care....Kieth

This is what I'd put on it, gimmy 64's truck is bad a**. Red rim with the skinny glamour ring and your chrome center cap. = Perfection!!

Nah, I don't want to run rings. The reason I hesitate on the red is that it is so damn common. I am not a fan of the flat black and red. After the millionth vehicle in that combination it gets a lil redundant. I got the truck cosmetically the way you see it and have only done mechanicals to it. I had planned to change the color until I found my 64. I will likely sell this truck once the 64 was done. I figured I would somewhat stick with the black and red since it will be likely easier to sell that way but I am not sure I can take the red wheels for an extended length of time. LOL

Thanks for the compliments but it looks much better in pictures. LOL I need to do some tuning again and update the registration before I hit the streets again but you are more than welcome to check it out at anytime. Do you ever go to niftee 50ees?

Re: black or red wheels?

Just for a reference the sub looked better in black than red, so my choice would be black with the red stripe just to make it pop a bit and not get tired of too much red in the long run.

One of my favorite trucks! One of the reason I am looking to powder coat the wheels, is that these were not well taken care of.

I think I am talking myself into this. Or just to upset people, I might go with pink wheels with red stripe and add some pink and red scallops. Hmmmm

I seriously think that would be the coolest. The flat black and red thing is a classic look at this point, but I feel like its kinda played right now in hot-rodding and custom building. Doesn't mean it won't look good, but it will look like every other dude with a black and red w/white accents custom (so, a lot).

Assuming you stay with the flat black since its the body color, you have a world of options for the detail color. Anything goes with flat black, and I'm a proponent of black and pink, to me its not a "Feminine" combo as long as the pink selected is a good color.

You could do the inverse of my truck, which would mean light blue wheels and trim on your black truck. I also think that hunter orange (or Hugger Orange if you want to think car terms) on flat black also looks very good. I rock that color combo on some of my kicks and other gear.

I havent been YET. Is there a lot of rides out there?
Ive done Otto's and Lowes in Pearland so far. Still need to hit Kemah too.

What part of Houston are you in?

Why dont you plasti-dip the rims and see how you like it? you can always peel them off.
