ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
So I'm ready to pull the trigger on the ECE 4/6 kit. I have read numerous threads about meausuring prior to have a baseline. Right now my bed is off and I'm doing other work on it in which it wont be back on for sometime.
Is this going to be a showstopper for me? I can measure the front to the front fenders, but not the rear. Any suggestions? Thoughts? Should I proceed in purchasing? I would think actually have the bed off would make this install easier. I just dont want to shoot myself in the foot, as I have saved for a long time to buy this kit and dont want to make a mistake. |

No.
Taking the bed off makes it ALOT easier. Buy the kit. ECE makes quality stuff. You will like the 4/6 drop. Posted via Mobile Device

Thanks lolife! Your help in 72blkbeauty's posting about the measurements was a superb idea.
That is what made me think of measuring. With that being said, I think I will call Stan up |

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
ECE is a great company who will make sure you are happy. In another thread I talked about how my front end was too high, ECE sent me new springs with return shipping prepaid. Turned out they had sent big block springs on accident.
Btw, it was my first attempt at dropping a vehicle and its not as difficult as I thought it would be. Just be cautious when you remove the front springs. Good luck. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
I'm in the process of installing the 4/6 kit on my truck!
My project changed direction mid-build, switching from a LWB to a SWB stepside. Because the SWB uses different springs, I contacted them and they sent me different springs! Their customer service seems to be top notch.

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
I just installed the same kit on mine last week with the addition of 1" blocks in the rear. Needless to say I like the stance a lot more. I plan to finish the front this weekend.
Are you running a c-notch on yours? |

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
The ECE kits are well made and ride good. Adding a link to the thread Sklptrljay was referencing above so you can see a little more what to expect on the finished product.

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
Great kit. I did the 4.5/6 drop (spindles were 2.5) with ECE power disc brake conversion. The kit went on without any problem. Everything is well made. I had a few questions about the installation and so I called ECE and they talked me through it. Great customer service.

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
Buy the kit. make sure you paint the parts that are not painted before install. Rotors, calipers and master cylinder will rust in no time if you don't.

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
Well. I bit the bullet and just now ordered my 4/6 kit. Big thanks to Stan for taking the time with me. I feel that this kit will be outstanding based on others, and the fact that Stan mentioned they will work with me should my stance not be correct with springs etc...
Overall quite pleased and the kit isnt even here |

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
OK the kit was just delivered to my door a few moments ago. After taking everything apart, does ECE no longer stamp their name in the spindles? Mine are black and nothing to em. Was kinda hoping for their slick silver spindles with their name etched in em.

72tutone,
I put mcguaghys 2.5" drop spindles on my sons truck they looked the exact same.....funny is that both companies are in Fresno CA probably the same foundery, but they worked great I have had no problems. I have Mcgaughys drop up front 3.5" and ECE Drop leafs and shakles out back 5.5" good luck take a few pictures before and after Scott

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
None of my ECE spindles have been silver.
They use to say Early Classic cast into them. They for awhile ECE was having production issues and was shipping Western Chassis spindles. I wouldn't worry about it. ECE wouldn't send you an inferior spindle.

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
I certainly wouldnt think they would either, but I wanted to check to be sure. Also their shocks that came with my kit are the excel-g2 version. Mine are all black. I'm not sure if the other kyb's in the pic are different or not from their website. Or perhaps is because mine are a supposed "dropped" version?
I dont know. Again this is all of curiosity. I'm sure they are fine. <Edit> Just looked at the part number on the shock 344068. Looks like they vary from black or gray. |

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
I think the shocks are the same as the drop is almost all spindle which doesnt change the travel. if you use a drop spring of like 2" or more you may need a shorter shock.
if i am wrong someone will chime in! and if i am than maybe i need different shocks!!!!

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
First C10.
Yep they are McGaughys for sure. And I specified to ECE the 4/6 drop 2.5 spindle with 1.5" springs. According to McGaughy's site I must use 1 1/4" rotors. Does anyone know if the stock rotors are this thick on a 72? Check this link out from Jegs. Identical. http://www.jegs.com/i/McGaughys/654/...rentProductId= Last edited by 72tutone; 06-27-2013 at 12:24 PM. |

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
Ya mine are black like yours in the picture. They fit well the only thing I had to get was the backing plates. i got them from CPP off ebay the cheapest like 50$ shipped.
I live like 1 hour from fresno and know a guy that knows a guy!! you know ??? that is why i have mcguaghy front and ECE rear. but both make great products. I havent had any issues with either places products.

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
My guess is that ECE makes them for MCGaughys.

Re: ECE 4/6 Owners pulling the trigger. Have some Q's
Yeah i read that before but I think they are referring to the actual machined part that the bearings ride on and is pressed in the outer spindle part. but they are definitely the same product.
