Can somebody tell me whether this is a large or small hump floorboard? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am trying to put in my new carpet, but it is not fitting too well around the hump. I ordered it for a 2wd, column shift, which mine is, but it just doesnt look right. Here is the floorboard in question...

well my camel-like friend that is a small hump you have there. the large hump actually bolts in and sticks up prolly 3" higher than that . and naturally I can't find the damn pic I have of the large hump. DAVE

I don't think all the high humps bolted in. I think that depended on having a 4 spd or auto. A 4 spd will have a bolt in, high hump pan, but my 84 1/2T 4x4 that had a factory auto had a high hump pan that did not bolt in. Will look at my 2wd with 4 spd tomorrow to see if it is a high hump.

boy, like I said before you never know with these trucks and never stop learning.
A few months ago I tried to figure out the year vs. what type of /idiot light/ gauge/warning light thing and nearly lost my mind . ( like i had one !) . I gave up trying to figure that one out .

I have owned over 20 81-87 trucks, and currently own 4. Two 3/4T 4x4s, a 3/4T 2wd, and a 1/2T 2wd and I am STILL learning.
I still piddle with 3 I used to own. friends have them now.
I gave up on trying to learn everything about them, as just when i think I know it, I find another one that has something different.
I have learned alot about them over the years, and in fixing them up, I've always tried to scrouge parts from other vehicles. (Always more of a challenge trying to find what will work, instead of just buying it!!)
The 1/2T 2wd has mostly been my 'ginnie pig' as I have owned it since 85. (It's an 81, that a friends father brought new, and I got it from him) Sad to say, but I might sell it soon. No time anymore, and my interest are changing. Will probably get rid of my 67 Camaro too.
I really enjoy the site here, but am not able to visit much. Maybe I can help someone so they won't have to go thru the aggrivation I did trying to learn.
Back when I lowered the 1/2T, (about 86) there were no dropped spindles,(that I knew of anyways) etc, so I had some 5" coils made, and cut and moved the lower ball joint to correct caster, (or is it camber? my mind is slipping!) When I took it to get the alignment, all it need was toe in/out changed a bit. Now, with a phone call you can have it all!

My neighbors fit a little better and he got his from LMC. I am hoping that once i get the seat and stuff in that it will stretch out a little.

try letting it sit in the sun for a while then it'll be more moveable

The lip where it drops down is where the high hump would bolt in.
All 4x4's have a high humps. All 4 speed manual (floor shifted) have high humps that unbolt. Auto 4x4's have high humps, but whether they are bolted are not I think depends on what was put on the line for that day. I have seen both variations. My brother had a 76 and a 79, both auto. 76 didn't unbolt and the 79 did. Maybe it have to do with the transfercase, but still I am guessing.... ALL 4x2 autos and column shifted manuals were low humps that I can verify.

Being able to unbolt the hump is great. I am glad I have a manual truck. When ever I have to do a clutch or anything it is so great to be able to unbolt that hump and just go to town. I just need a beter manual

I have owned a 76 chevy K20 and a 78 chevy K20, both of them had bolt in humps. I would have to agree that it is something to do with the transfer case. But, as is everybody else I am still learning also.
