2012 exhaust

Just wondering if anyone has actually done this and if so, how they like it? I have a 2012 Silverado 5.3 with active fuel management. I'm considering cutting the muffler off and going with duals without mufflers? I have heard it doesn't sound too good when it goes down to 4 cylinder mode. Any opinions about this?

Re: 2012 exhaust

Well for starters, duals without mufflers never sounds good, but will have even more horrible drone and "fart can" sound with the AFM. Corsa is one of the best, it keeps it mild sounding under all conditions, but will scream when you get on it. When GMPP was offering exhaust for these trucks, it was built by Corsa (and some by Borla) but that is no longer available. A long, large case Magnaflow would be ok as well. Your best bet if you want it louder but not obnoxious and ricer sounding, get it tuned and delete AFM and throw on a decent muffler.

Re: 2012 exhaust

I have a 2011, that has the DOD process and YES, when the truck shifts to the 4 cylinder mode it gets to sound a little like a "Ricer". I am running the 5.3, with Kooks long-tube headers and a Magnaflow muffler going into two 2 1/2" dual exhausts outlets. The DOD does give it a little canned burble noise but I got used to it, due to the fact that when it is opened up, it sounds so nice.

Do not go without mufflers of some kind, just my choice, but to me it is a cheesy farm boy trick that sounds bad. I grew up on a farm, so no bad pun intended.
