Hey guys, I feel a bit dumb asking this, but on my '69 there is a small (1"x2") silver box beside the fuse panel, mounted to the firewall under the dash. A 3-wire plug comes from the fuse panel and connects to it. What is this component, and what is it's purpose?

The reason I ask is I'm trying to track down a battery drain issue (1 amp drain with ignition off), and as soon as I connect the battery, I can hear this box "click". Is it a relay? If I leave the battery connected the box becomes quite hot.

Sorry I don't have a picture of it handy, otherwise I'd include it. I'm sure you'll know what I'm referring to.

Yes I think what you are describing is a horn relay. Sounds like it might be for the horn? Hook up the battery and honk your horn. Then unplug it and try to honk it again if it doesn't work it's for the horn.

Ahhh that makes sense, I haven't installed my horns yet, and the column isn't properly put together either. I bet the horn contact is closed for some reason and causing the drain. I'll check it out. Thanks fellas

I had the same issue in my truck with no horn installed, replaced the relay anyway and fixed the issue.
