Inline six and tranny I.D.

Hello-
I've been checking online resources to I.D. the drive train in my 65 C10 with no luck. I know they are not original, and would like to determine the year, etc.

Transmission info
Case casting #:3858986, C46
Case stamp: S0310
7-bolt cover casting #:GM 5, 3858882, J225
Tail casting #:3860042, C76

Engine
Casting #: CON2, J128, 473483, GM83
Stamp: F1218TAB

Any help appreciated!

CON2 means it was on conveyor belt number two. J128 means it was made on the month of October 12, 1988. 473483 is the block casting number. GM83 is the mold number. In the case I think you have a 292 from 1988. How tall are the sidecovers? If you look under the CON2 you will see a little clock like emblem and that indicates the shift and time the block was made. Hope this helps. If you need more info let me know.

Re: Inline six and tranny I.D.

The side covers are 4.25" and the motor mounts are not offset. Yesterday I found this sight indicating the casting might be a 76-79 (non-integrated heads):

The casting and stamp indicate the last year digit is 8, so it might be from a 78.

Thanks for the info, T.J.

It's definately a 250 so its either a 1968 or a 1978. What type of carb does it have on it?

Re: Inline six and tranny I.D.

None of those 6 cylinders ever came from the factory with a turbo. In the 80's they came with the intigrated head. If your carb is a monojet rochester then I am sure it's probably a 68. Does it have an hei from the factory?

Re: Inline six and tranny I.D.

Has anyone ever seen duel exhaust on a L6 or I6? My 86 Late Model had the engine swapped into a 2wd 1980 C10, then I swapped it into my 73. I am having abit of trouble with removing the Exhaust, due to the cold & hot cycles I have maybe already broke 3 bolts. But I do know it's a 250 4.1 liter. Just because, The motor mounts up perfectly to 350 5.7 V8 Motor Mounts.
