Hi everyone new here, would like some details regarding model differences etc
hey there everyone, found this forum thru a google search and i must say im thoroughly enjoying reading thru and seeing all the nice trucks you guys have
Im from the UK and have been into american cars/trucks since i was very young, im currently looking into importing a truck for myself but im in need of some info before deciding which one to go for... the 60-66 shape is one that i like a lot however there seem to be a lot of variation between years/models so i was hoping that either i could be pointed towards a thread with all the year/model/trim/engine differences or maybe collectivly you guys can help me here, simply so that i can learn more about them and which ones i prefer for when i begin my search.. browsing thru i can see that some are short/long beds and some stepsides, i personally prefer the fleetside versions but some have different headlamps/chrome side trim/painted grill & bumpers or chrome etc at the moment im thinking of a V8 fleetside but just need to figure out which year/model etc i prefer, as i say there seems to be lots of small differences also im assuming the model/weight might effect the engine sizes but thats just an assumption.. pics to show differences would be very much appreciated, or as mentioned above point in the direction of a thread with the info many thanks in advance, looking forward to being part of a great communty Last edited by StripedHemi; 06-23-2013 at 06:23 AM. |

Re: Hi everyone new here, would like some details regarding model differences etc
ah see im learning everytime i view a photo thread just noticed the wrap around windows.... im liking that! but not so keen on the grill/headlamp of some with that window i kinda prefer the later style grill/headlamps..
also read about different chassis setups etc, this would be handy to know as i do plan to at least lower the truck, if i end up with a non V8 i'll be looking to upgrade to a V8 + decent rear axle/brakes etc so i guess that kinda info would be great too hopefully i can get to a point where i can look for something specific due to easy of modification but include the visual preferences i have |

Re: Hi everyone new here, would like some details regarding model differences etc
Nice thing about the 60-66 trucks is the that the body panels/parts are pretty much all interchangeable throughout. So if you like the wrap around windshield but later grill, then you just get a 60-63 cab and put on a 64-66 grill. easy peasy.
The big difference is that the 60-62 models had a torsion bar suspension and the 63-66 went with a coil spring setup. Most want a later model for the suspension and then just buy the body panels they like to add to it. My suggestion would be to look at a 63 model. You will get the wrap around and coil spring setup. Then just add the grill and hood you like. |

Also, don't forget the under cab mounts changed location in '63

Welcome to the forum StripedHemi
It sounds like what you may like would be a '63. That is my favorite year. It has the wrap around windshield. It has the coil spring front suspension.....easily converted to disc brakes. It has the frame that was used thru '72. Actually very similar to the '73-'87 as well. It has the 12 bolt rear differential which is easy to find parts for. And a very attractive one year only grill.

Re: Hi everyone new here, would like some details regarding model differences etc
Welcome!
If you like stylish trucks with the wrap around wind shield and dual headlights then 1960-1961 are great years. 62-63 had the wrap around wind shield and both went to single head lights 1962 had a big oval head light bezel and 63 had a round head light bezel. 1960-1961 had the oval pod hoods and 1962-1966 had the same hood. 1964-1966 were exactly the same except for options and fender emblems. 66 is my favorite year for the reason of the options and the style, but I would also like a 61 for the style. 66 was the first year for the 327 as an option for the pickups. 63 was the start of the 292 6 cylinder(1963-1987). And so I don't take all the space I will end here.

Hey stripedhemi - there are a good few UK members on here; neatbeard with his 66 short step, Grizz with his 66 short fleet and me with my 62 long fleet, to name but three
If you're ever over this was then you're welcome to pop in and talk trucks Cheers
