Post 1970 C10 Chevy Suspension

got drum brakes 6-lug on all four corners and want at least disc brakes in the front.

While I'm at it wanting to drop the nose down a few inches w/o Sacrificing ride quality. Since I don't want to just buy a kit what's the best way of adding off the shelf parts or finding them in my local salvage yard? What year model Chevy/GMC truck parts will be inter changeable to reach my goals?

Buy 63-70 drop spindles. $229 most everywhere.

Local parts store items:
1) 73 HD rotors and bearings
2) 73 HD calipers
3) 71-72 brake hoses (some use 4x4 hoses)
4) 71-72 M/C and prop valve.

My opinion,... junk yard parts are wore out.
What would you really want to re-use?

I can get Mcgaughy's drop spindles for 63-70 and a 6-lug rotor kit if you decided to go that way .They would be 1.25" thick rotors with 7/16 studs so you would not have any lug nut issues and you wouldnt have to change the rear diff . Your stock drum drum brake wheels would not work though. 71 and newer 4x4 wheels or aftermarket would tho.

At this stage I'm just exploring my options before I decide to sink money into it. As I'll be rebuilding the whole front suspension then once completed I'll work on all brake components.

If all is possible try to keep your front in the way the factory set it up.Do you have any Alignment problems if not do the drop or stock spindle remember to change the upper Ball joint if you can do the bottom one you be in heaven and sence you have screw in bushings there really cheep to buy and do at home one at a time after you get that front end back in shape

time to do the rear end if you have leaf springs there wore out have a shop press new bushings in and change all brake rubber lines and if possible change rear wheel cylinders and brake shoes it will ride and stop like a dream

I see your point with factory settings. I'd rather have a nice air ride system even though they are quiet expensive. Or at least in the front as I want a narrowed rear axle for wide tires.

My build will be in stages as I am just trying to gather enough information to make an intelligent decision. Wanting a safe and ugly truck. I'll worry about the exterior at a latter date.
