Re: 4x2 to a 4x4
I'm working on the same project but mine is a 67. Do a search using "4x4 conversion" there are tons of threads on the subject. The short list of stuff is a transfer case that will mate to your transmission or a divorced unit. A front axle, a set of springs and hangers and slot of time tools and knowledge. You can get the knowledge on this forum. The time and tools are up to you

Agreed 100%..... Conversions are for vehicles that were never available as 4x4 in the first place.

Re: 4x2 to a 4x4
As a test, make a list of what you need to convert, then think of labor.
Trans TC, shifter, crossmember Front diff, springs, mounts, shackles, etc. Rear diff, etc. to match the front Driveshafts Basically you need a doner truck. But if you get another truck w/ the parts, why put them on the old truck? |

x3 It's the sort of project that is likely to cost you $2500, require literally a hundred hours of work and headache, all in order to create something that already exists and you can purchase for $1500.

To do the swap your basicly taking your truck half way fully apart and building it back.Look around your local craigslist you can find long bed 4x4s kinda cheap they need some work.
