New gears and mini spool

I plan on ordering a set of Richmond gears 3.73 and a Richmond mini spool very soon. I have a 10 bolt rear end but I have not yet checked the spline, does anyone know the spline it could be? 2wd 85 C10. Thanks.

A spool, from what I gather, is for the track... Doesn't it lock the axles together ??? That will eat your tires for everyday use.... I might be wrong though

it should be a 28 spline axle. Also you do not want to use a mini spool on the street. It will self destruct and destroy the rear axle. I would suggest either a full spool or some sort of locker unit.

You do not want to run a spool, of any kind, on the street. That is a strictly drag racing thing. A spool is very un-forgiving. It is very hard to turn, they want to "push" the vehicle straight even with the front wheels turned. One tire will always squeal, attracting the attention of every badge, with every turn. There is no "turning it off"....

Pretty much any other traction device would be better. Some are more harsh than others, but a spool is the worst.

Mini isn't good but the 27 spline axles aren't good either and the two together is a bad idea. Even if you upgrade to late 80s 30 spline axles.
If you do get a spool don't drive in the rain. My friend flipped his Camaro getting on an on ramp with a mini spool. If your looking for traction a lunchbox locker will bolt in place of the spider gears

I'm pretty sure they use them in circle track racing too. And i'm also sure they turn. Left iirc.
I'm not saying a locked rear diff is a good idea on the street.
I'm just pointing out a few facts

Yeah a spool in a street car/truck is a wreck waiting to happen.Even a lsd can surprise you in the rain sometimes when the back end will walk sideways at the wrong time lol.How are you going to use the truck tho?If its going to be street/strip a air locker or e locker will cost more but will let you lock it when you want.

Yes mini spools are actually designed with dirt track racing in mind. The reason they hold up is the cars are typically light ie 3k ish and they are on dirt where traction is limited and very little stress is placed on the rear gears. Dirt track racig is my thing haha Mini spool are also not a good idea for drag racing either. They just cannot take the abuse.

"Other facts"
They are far wider turns than city street driving.
The tires are also staggered. The outside tire is bigger than the inner, which force the car to turn when they are locked together....
On sprint cars (dirt track) it is very noticeable. They are on shorter, rounder tracks.

My Truck is now equipped with the mini spool and 3.73 gears, it does drag one tire around turns but as much as I drive it no big deal. and I WILL NOT drive it in the rain but other then that it runs fine.

I understand why everyone is against one, but its the same way they did it years ago, I know lots of people who run or have run a mini on the street. For my use it should be fine. Also bought the C-clip eliminators so no worries in that area.

the mini spools are cheap but if your not worried about lifespan just weld her up n go till she blows. 10 bolt carriers are cheap. axles can be swapped, but all of these ideas can be a real PIA if your in the middle of a street when she decides she's done... ( I say this as i've done a few of these ideas...) So with that in mind good sir, I say drive her like u stole her. but remember you chose the path you took when your up to your ass in gators n still trying to drain the swamp your standing in.

I have the ARB Air Locker in mine now after wasting more money on posi eaton auburn limited slip than most people paid for their truck.I have no issues at all in any weather and it is the only rear end that actually does what the ads say it does.ALL THE REST ARE LIES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went to a rear-end specialty shop and wasted over $4000 on two rear-ends that didn't last a month each.
I listened to the idiots at the Chevrolet dealership who insisted I wanted posi-traction for another $2200 and it never worked at all.It sat there forever as well because they were always tightening something up and never got it right once.
I was talked out of the mini spool and spool and after many years to think about it I am still sorry I didn't try it.
My truck is 4 wheel drive and when both rear ends are locked the turning radius is huge but in 4 wheel drive I am going 10 mph.
I hear tons of stories.
