Some people just don't get it
I came out of the gas station this morning and a guy says " you have got some work to do but that is a nice ride." Well what he doesn't know is that everything he could see is done. I said thanks but wanted to tell him to STFU.

He meant well, not everybody is up to date on all trends.
I'd have responded w/ one word "patina". |

Nice ride! Just ignore him, he's obviously not up on trends, as others said.

Re: Some people just don't get it
Hmmm, I'm fairly new to the 67-72 chev-gmc trucks, I've never seen this before. I assume its so when you park on the street the young-ins wont open the door and come barrelin into the street? Only lets 'em out curbside.

Re: Some people just don't get it
I would guess they did not have a 4th door due to additional cost but really have no idea.

Re: Some people just don't get it
both reasons could be quite accurate! I think of my 2 kids and they would argue about who gets behind mom the whole way to the 'burb (if I had one)! their so lazy, to have to scoot aallll the way over tho the driver seat!!
sweet truck btw!

Re: Some people just don't get it
I may be wrong……but my understanding is the 1967 – 1972 generation suburbans were the first with 3 doors. All previous generations had only 2 doors. 1973 was the first year for the 4 door.
Like you, I can only speculate safety as a reason as to why the third door is on the passenger side and I never thought about the cost factor as a reason for not going with 4 doors. Now you may understand why I said “be glad he didn’t ask why you only have three doors”….Ha! BB72CHEVKT could have been there all day.

Re: Some people just don't get it
Could the third door be because it was intended to be a work/delivery vehicle and be unloaded on the curb side as well as the rear? Loading the family in was just a bonus?

Re: Some people just don't get it
Not sure why only 3 doors but the best so far is for delivery. These weren't built for family's back then they were built for work, so that would be my guess also.
As far as the guy at H/D remember also not everyone is a car/truck person as we all are. U have to remember that when talking to people like this they don't know everything to know about these trucks & Suburban's as we all do.There like little kids in the candy store. They see something that is nice and colorful and think everything should be colorful to be nice.

Re: Some people just don't get it
It is set up for 3 seats so it leaves very little room for cargo.

Re: Some people just don't get it
I'm speculating 3 vs 4 door decision was cost based.
I don't know why some 66 door handles are only keyed on driver's side. Guess it wasn't designed w/ dating in mind |

Re: Some people just don't get it
This guy reminds me of one of my old bosses it didn't matter how hard or how nice something turned out he never say something nice to people he always had to say something like what that guy said. He was never satified.

Re: Some people just don't get it
Nope. Some people don't get it. Many of them are on this forum. It's so funny. I was one of them that didn't get it when I bought my patina truck. I just figured it needed a paint job, so that's what I planned on doing. I come on this forum and tell guys my plans to paint it, and I hear guys pleading with me to not paint it because it has "sweet patina".
So, after a while, I came around and decided to leave the paint. Now, every once in a while on the forum, I'll get a negative comment that it would look better painted, and that "one day you'll realize it should be painted". It's like, whatever dude. Stfu and keep it to yourself. It's interesting though. I sort of sense some angry jealousy here and there directed at guys with natural patina trucks. Since folks can't just go buy one easily, or have repop parts shipped to them with that look, they get funny about it. Sure, everyone has an opinion and different taste, so that's part of it, but I think there's more to it. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Some people just don't get it
HA! I get that on every vehicle I drive!!
Dont take it so hard amigo, the general public has no clue anyway. My VW bug is slamed, they ask what's broken, My 70 stepper is patina'ed and they ask why the rust and when am I gonna paint it, my '62 Harley is old school and they ask where are the saddlebags and windshield. This forum and the shop truck thread saved me alot of $$ that I thought I would have to put into a paint job. I had no idea of that style/fad/genra/ and all along my truck was just that. (I'm working on a shop logo for it) No offence to painted trucks by any means but to me on this project...the simpler the better. The positive side of this is.... at least people are noticing Last edited by Madtat; 07-19-2013 at 04:36 PM. |

Re: Some people just don't get it
Folks are trying to buy my junk EVERY time I drive it. I can't stop anywhere without somebody wantin' to know if I'll sell it. They act mad when I tell 'em "not for sale".
My last truck, a '71 step was finished, a real nice driver- I made the mistake of pricing it to a random guy at the gas station- "Sure, I'll take ten grand for it". He went to the bank across the street, came back and paid me. Lesson learned, now I'm starting over with my '72...

Re: Some people just don't get it
Don't take it the wrong way man...be happy that he was friendly enough and outgoing enough to even notice and speak to you. That's a rare thing in today's society.
I might even have said the same thing or close to it and I would literally do ANYTHING I could for you, just because you are alive. I don't quite understand the whole "patina" thing but to each his own: I do understand that motto quite well. |

and wiggled my junk at him.
