Radiator mounts?

So all the radiator companies have decided that my truck came with a radiator an inch thicker than what really came in it, at least thats what comes in every box I have opened in the last month regardless of what the specs in the computers say when ordering them or what store I order from.

So my question is, where do I get the brackets to fit these wider radiators...I guess they came in something, where do I look.

Or will it be easier to just alter the originals or fabricate new ones? The originals are for a radiator with a tank thickness of about 2 inches, all the radiators I am finding are about 3 inches across the tank.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Radiator mounts?

You need brackets and cushions for a 4 core. Most of the board vendors carry them. Sounds like you have a 2 core set-up

Re: Radiator mounts?

If you get the 4 core brackets you will need to notch out the raditator support. Other than that very easy.

Re: Radiator mounts?

It took me less time to remove the old rad,mod and install the mounts and reinstall the rad in mine(went from 2 row to 4) than it did an r&r on the rad in the wifes blazer.

Most here on the forum go to 4 row, most A/C trucks were 4 row from the factory. If you order a rad from any auto parts box store for an A/C truck you get 4 row. You are getting 4 row rads if they are 3"s. No big deal, just get the correct brackets and cushions that fit your radiator of your choice. A 15 second search of the LMC catalog shows 4 row brackets and cushions, as does the classic industry, and brothers.

Re: Radiator mounts?

I will order what I need.

It is just very frustrating that I could not get a replacement for what I had, It worked very well until some dummy ran into it with the cherry picker.

My truck came with a one row originally so two rows was plenty....and I should not have to spend extra money to buy parts I shouldnt need.

Thats the problem, their computers say they have them, but when you order one the radiator in the box is the big one.

I have tried Advance, Oreily, Napa, and Autozone in the last month.....6 or 8 different part numbers, the exact same radiator comes (at least it looks the same).

The Chineese have decided what I can buy.

Re: Radiator mounts?

I ran into the same problem and was pretty much to the point of having my old rad re-cored($450!).
I ended up with a radiator for I think a G-body and it fit my old 2 core holddowns.
I can dig up the receipt and part # tonight for you, I think it was 433162. It was cheaper too ~ $100 and O'Reilly's had it on the shelf to boot!

Re: Radiator mounts?

Were all of the ones you had ordered in aluminum cores with plastic tanks?
I ran into that, even on the ones I had Advance & O'Reilly's factory order...they're listed as copper/brass in the computer and in the book but come in plastic/aluminum.

No, most were copper/brass. All looked like they came off the same assembly line.
