How to tell what the original color is of your truck

I'm wondering what the orgnial color of my 1985 chevy silverado is? Any ideas on how to tell the bed and cab are dark blue under the light blue it has been painted

If the SPID label is still on the inside of the glovebox it will have the colors listed. Look for that first.

As Frank said: look on the SPID first. You are looking for a code like "15U" (U = upper or primary color) or "35L" (L = lower or secondary color on a two tone).

Second thing:

Here's a link to the free generic information packet from the GM Heritage Center archive:

http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-h...tion-kits.html

Find Chevy trucks and click on the one for 1985. This will show you all the generic options and content that were available for the '85 model year.

Depending on how desperate you are, you can also send them $50 and your VIN and they will send you the vehicle invoice specific to your truck, including your original options and pricing.

The interior will be painted the primary color...so as long as your cab is original that can be your reference.
Check under the dash pad or floormats...even with a color change those areas are usually original
