Ron,
I was wondering the same thing. I visited Tom Langdon's website. He sells HEI distributors for the inline 230 and 250 engines. He also sells the correct plugs for only $1 each. He sells 2 different sizes, so be sure you get the correct size. I noticed that my 250 takes a different plug than my 230, but I can't tell you which one. Here's the web link.

Champion RN16YC5

I'm gapped at 45 thou...Tom recommends up to 60 thou on these plugs with his HEI. Believe his plugs are same for 194 thru 250.

I'm running Toms HEI, 18 degrees initial advance per Toms advice and though I started at 10 degrees, 18 is much better.

Carb is weber 32/36 DGEV progressive.

I use nothing but NGK V-power racing plugs. You can go to their website and cross reference your plugs.
They are usually only about $2 a plug. had real good luck using the .045-.048 gap. When using the MSD 6AL digital seemed to like about .055" gap better.

I figure if they will last in the Fuel Altered on 25% nitro-methane they ought to last on pump gas.

Re: 230-250 I6 hei

Toms intake adapter on my log. I made a new gasket, the slotted one leaks. The carb runs super awesome, better than perfect, bestist I ever had! Very tuneable. Pics of how I installed it, modded the linkage and all the tuning is in the John Lee Jr Thread. I can't really ever see a reason to use a Rochester B or MonoJet ever again on a Chevy 6

You can use the original/stock plugs, just open the gap up to something between .045 and .060.

I thought that hei utilized a resistor plug? That was the reason that I asked the question.

Is the resistor plug like for radio static or other functions? I was just assuming that it was or is there other reasons Ron?..Vernski

pretty well all plugs are resistor now and I don't really know whether or not for radio suppression alone or not as ignitions systems have advanced.
at one time one just put in an inline suppressor to block ignition interference from the radio and the came resistor plugs which also blocked it.. what they all do now is beyond me.
I stayed away from spark plugs for 20 years with my diesel
they just delivered some NGK 2635 plugs to the door. now to figure out at waht to set the gap to

Re: 230-250 I6 hei

In an old Hot Rodding issue, they recommended 3 different heat rated plugs. The hotter plugs went on #1 & #6 then the next cooler rated plugs #2 &#5 then the coolest at the #3 & #4. The thought behind this was the further away the fuel traveled, the hotter the spark required to ignite the mixture without burning the pistons. The cooler #3 & #4 did not need as much. R45 R44 R43 if I remember incorrectly . lol

If you can get NGK spark plugs you will be very happy! On my 292 I am running ngk spark plugs and they work way better then autolight or champion. I would highly recommend the NGK's.
