Tail lights???

What does everyone have? im not a huge fan of the stockers. but im on the verge of saying to hell with it and just smoking them. We really dont have much of an option for aftermarket tail lights without looking like a bunch of damn ricers. so im at the point now of either smoking my stockers or throwing on a roll pan with tails

any suggestions? pics would help. ive got a black long bed that will be lowered possibly this weekend

Re: Tail lights???

There is a company in the Hot Rod magazines that sells various shaped lenses, and some that are 3-4 foot long. Also Tricking magazine has a few of them too.

On my project F100 I thought about using Mercury Cougar taillights, but my tail gate would always have to be up. Something I am not sure I want to commit to just yet.

Re: Tail lights???

ive also thought about getting my hands on a newer bed and bolting that on so i can have the newer taillights styles and switch over to the LED taillights they offer but thats not going to be cheap so that might be a down the road project.

Re: Tail lights???

Led conversion and/or smoked lenses. Euro, alteeza, whatever you wanna call em just don't look right on our trucks IMO.

Re: Tail lights???

where did you buy those tailights?? i was thinking of just widnow tinting my tail lights and wrapping it around so the tailight trim can hold the tint in place and prevent it from peeling to the outside...right now my lights are plastidiped black looks good at light time but once it gets dark its look like a POS with black dots everywhere

Re: Tail lights???

It is amazing how good and how bright you can make your stock lights look. Just pull the lights apart clean them and paint the reflective part inside with chrome paint, some new bulbs and they look great.

Re: Tail lights???

Depending upon the year of your truck and where you are located...

I am planning to paint my truck a shade of orange that is somewhere between kawasaki z1000 orange and lamergini merelago orange and i plan to use oem amber tail lamp lenses.

I have seen these lenses is factory red with white backup lense in the corner, all red, amber and opaque white.

In california any vehicle newer than 77 must have red stop lights. mine is an 86 so i gotta figure out how to make a red bulb shine red thru an amber lense.

I love the stock lights. anything else just looks out of place. IMO

Re: Tail lights???

So my tail lights are new stock lenses with the tail being a LED circle (its actually an aftermarket "angel eyes" conversion that I got for my cadillac ctsv and never used) with a separate brake lamp (in the stock location) and my turn signal lamp is an amber bulb where the backup lamp used to be. Shines amber through the clear spot on the lense.
So with brake and turn on separate lamps I had to install a converter for my car trailer which is no big deal.
Oh and I have blue dots to top it off.
Makes a unique tail/brake light that I gets alot of attention. Sometimes too much.....(actually nevada is cool compared to CHP)
Now my strobes are another story. blue/red not so ok. lol

If you don't do the LED stuff this is so dam easy to do and cost ZERO. I first did this mod about 12 years ago and have never seen it before or since. (giving all my secrets away)

Re: Tail lights???

This Idea is not all mine, I have to give credit to the member who started this thread (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=577773) as i was reading his diy led conversion I thought to my self I like where he started but i wanted it to look more Halo so i modified mine a little differently and that is it... didn't cost that much and I like the look... I love the stock tail lights on these trucks because they compliment the body line and if you have a tailgate band they follow it into the rear. I didn't like how he cut into the wiring harness so i changed how they installed[/URL[/URL[/URL

Re: Tail lights???

Ok Frog, took some pictures last nite but they didn't come out that great.

This is the Tail. The brake light is in the center behind the blue dot. It is currently not an LED and was too bright to photo.

Next is the Turn. Also not an LED so has a lot of glare

Next up is Tail and Turn. Again a lot of glare.

Its hard to tell from pics but tail/brake are red of course but the turn in definitely Amber not red as it looks in photos.

And here is a couple youtube vids of the lights. Again, very poor quality.

And just for fun a bonus run in my cadillac. The speedo will hit 161mph

Re: Tail lights???

Ebay...just type in 1157 wire adapters...I have had these on my truck now for about 9 months with no issues. Even though you dont need them with these tail lights I replaced my flasher with a LED flasher because I installed SwitchBack LED in the front also.
