1987 stepside fender
Hi, My name is Marlon, and I'm in Canada. I have a 1987 Chev. stepside, and have done a full duel gas tank install. The only part I need is a square hole drivers side rear fender. As far as I can see there are no repop's. And aside from grafting a pass. side door onto the drivers ( would be upside down ) I was wondering had anyone tried something similar, or might know of any parts dealers. Thanks!

Re: 1987 stepside fender
I have been thinking about this same installation and have convinced myself to use a short fill hose on the tank and fill through the wheel opening (no fuel door on the fender).
Would that be an acceptable alternative for you? K

Re: 1987 stepside fender
I went through the same thing. I finally found a used fender with the square gas door. Not sure why there are no repops available when they came from the factory with a fuel door.

Re: 1987 stepside fender
That's what I'm doing, and it'll look pretty good with some SS parts. But down the road, I hope to find a fender. It was a factory option, but I believe it to be a "rare" one for these years. I have had no trouble finding the older fender, but it's not for me. maybe I'll post some pics of what I've done, in case anyone is interested. The Pass. side fill neck has been drilled out, and chromed, and SS button heads were used to remount, and would like to do the same on the drivers side. I have NOS fill hoses, for the right, but will need to cut, a fab it to work on the drivers side, also a drivers fill neck, is just as hard to find. I've hit every scrap yard, all used part dealers, and everything in between.

Re: 1987 stepside fender
Couldnt you graph in a door from a fleetside truck? Just a question, not too familiar with the stepside bed fuel doors.

I'm not to sure, I'll have to go to the wreckers again and have a look, but I don't think so. The full neck housing might be way off.

One observation: You must have an earlier box, because in 1987 the primary fuel tank was on the driver's side. Passenger side was the secondary tank. Since you are looking for a later fender/box it seems that should help you in your search. K
