1967 C10 - cold start issue
Hey Guys,
I am experiencing an issue with cold starts and was hoping someone might have some insight. With my 67 C10, I recently installed a rebuilt 2 BB Rochester Carb...when I start it in the morning, I pull the manual choke, and pump the pedal a couple of times...it starts right up initially, but then it wants to die....I need to continue to pump the pedal to keep it going....after about 2 minutes of this, it will idle on it's own and not die. After it is warmed up, it runs great. Does anybody have any suggestions? Is it just an old engine, and will it always have a rough time idling when first started, or is there something i can adjust...May the fuel mixture? More advanced Timing? Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Hopefully you're pushing the choke back in a bit after it starts. Choke plate needs to be about a 1/4 inch open when it's cold to run right.

Yes, just keep giving it gas and gradually push choke in until in idles fine on its own. Thats normal for these older carbs. They are nothing like fuel injection!

Re: 1967 C10 - cold start issue
Thanks for the help.
I tried it this morning...pulled the choke, but left about a 1/4 inch opening...it started right up and did not die..i did not even have to pump the gas pedal...it just idled on its own right from the start....i pushed the choke in after about a minute and it was fine. Thanks again for the tip....as a "new mechanic" these tips are awesome! |
