A/C Compresser noise
On my way home from work today, started hearing a funny sound. Well made it home ok,truck wasnt getting hot or anything. But i open the hood, and i see little peices of black material all over my windshield washer bottle and everything in the area. Seems a little disc on the a/c compressor is just flapping around and makeing all kind of racket.I need to know do i just let the piece come off on its own,or is there a way to get the outer piece of the a/c pully of to take it off myself. Am going to try to post a pic or two of what i am talking about.

Sounds like the clutch assembly is starting to fail. I think you can just replace the clutch but it's a hassel. I just replace the entire compressor since the clutch assembly costs about at much a compressor.
WOW, I just looked at the second picture. You should replace it promtply before it goes flying off!! |

the advantage of just replacing the cllutch is that you dont have to vacuum out the system and charge it doing the clutch is alot cheaper and easier. last time i did a clutch on there it cost me only $45 for the part or so... pep boys clutches stink tho get an AC Delco

If the A/C doesn't work, snip off the belt. You don't need it then. Simple - no cost 5 second fix!
