Speedometer Cable Question for 77 Chevy P/U
Have 77 Chevy P/U with the optional gauge package. Have a speedometer
that is now not working. (But did work) We recently replaced the cable and it worked perfect. I am going through the connections (two piece) and checking the tightness of the connections.(Cable/Transmission/Speedo Gauge) Cable and transmission connections seem OK. I tried to stick my hand behind the cluster to check the connection to the gauge and could not find a way to get to the gauge. Maybe I just going in at the wrong angle. Can one get to the gauge this way or does the cluster have to come out a bit to get to the gauge. Please advise and thanks if you know. Larry Last edited by 77 ChevySport; 08-26-2013 at 08:46 AM. Hi
follow the cable up and you need to push the nib to release the cable some times it can prevent it from goiing on ,may need to jiggle it in /out if you are removing the cluster watch for the fiber cable for the ashtray light(on the left side here) runs from the socket across to the ashtray, undo the socket

Re: Speedometer Cable Question for 77 Chevy P/U
You sure can. Unhook the negative battery cable on the battery first. That way you don't cause any unwanted sparks. I just did mine on my 84. And I'm a 6' 4" 300 pounder.
Lay on your back by the pedals and reach up with your right hand on the side of the column closest to the door. Push the clip forward and the speedo pops off. |
