$50 bucks for an engine good buy?

Someone here is selling 2 blocks a 305 and a 350
I have a 305 in my 74, yall think it would be a good reason, to buy the 350 block, then next check seals, lifters, rods, then next check rockers, heads, etc
idk i'm taking a engine repair and engine performance at my college.
So im not to sure...

Not sure what's up with that right one... 4 or 5 belts? Still for 50 bucks it's a good deal as long as the blocks aren't cracked rusted or hAve a hole in em, even if it has a hole ya can fix it like we do at work. I'd just look it over real good. Ask to pull the crank out so see if a main has spun. If so i'd stay clear. It'll be gouged pretty bad.

Honestly I'd look around more. They're missing heads and seem to have been in the weather. Not sure if you want to use your 305 heads on that 350. I know a guy local who's got a 350 that was running that's now in pieces and he wants $200. It can be put back together and dropped in the truck. I could probably talk him down too. That was my plan. I figure around 100 for a engine that needs a rebuild with all parts.

I agree with the other posts. You have a LONG ways to go to turn those into running engines. You would be WAY ahead to buy a complete engine, heads, valve covers, brackets, etc for $250 or something close to that.

Try to find a truck that's rusted out for dirt cheap with a 350 in it. Drive around and look in back yards. Look for a truck with no title and a 350, etc. That's what I'm after. Theyre everywhere here. Spare parts to sell or use, a engine to rebuild, spare drivetrain and some scrap metal. I'm looking for a truck with a solid body and blown or missing engine. I've found a few in the area for around $1000. Even found one in a hundred pieces that was a dually with a rattle can paint job and 100% no rust for $800 with a crate 350 but it was sold when I called the guy. Sometimes these trucks can be cheap when they've reached the end of their life or someone started something and got bored with it.

Hey if the 350 isn't bored out yet then it's a good candidate for rebuilding. You can have it bored then have the crank and rods re conditioned. Not a bad buy for $50.

See if you have a U pullit type place around, You can get a complete V8 around here at pull-a-part for less than 200.00.

dont rush and try to buy the first deal u see, i recently bought a 1976 305
complete and works great! for $150

I'd grab that orange 350 block - metallurgy was better then than now. Knock it apart and spend a bit having it baked and shot peened. As long as they've been stored as in the pic, a little surface rust is all you have to worry about. It's when they still have the heads on and are stored on the pan with no carb or exhaust manifold is when you have to worry - water that gets on parts and quickly dries is no problem. It's when it stands inside the block that you get major pitting. You can find heads, etc. everywhere, same with cranks and rods. Offer him $50 for the pair, you'll get gas money back at the salvage yard.
