Suspension setup front/rear for big hp truck?

Well my truck build has taken a turn for the dark side! LOL

I was gonna just make my truck a neat little driver but now that I have sold my street strip car and I have this blower motor that wants to find its way into my truck!

So I am planning this build and would love to hear some input on suspension setup. I am assuming coilovers front/rear? Give me the rundown on what I need or what is working.

This motor will be right at 1000hp on the race fuel tune, Powerglide trans, Fab 9 rear. Not sure of the gear yet. What you guys thinking?

Thanks
CHRIS

Re: Suspension setup front/rear for big hp truck?

I'm only running about 1/2 that HP but there comes a point where you are going to have to look at what your doing. racing or street / strip / show / toy. With that kind of HP you need something more rigid than the stock frame, or at a MINIMUM a full cage structure to build some rigidity into the stock frame. Then comes the need for a back-half to fir the big tires under it, and the need for a front half to fit a mor suitable drag suspension under it,, what's left a 4 or 5 foot piece of the stock frame... Like I said, comes a time to decide what your building and do it ONCE, right!.

Re: Suspension setup front/rear for big hp truck?

I am really leaning towards the older school version of the 67 Drag Truck that is famous on the boards... It will be a radical street/strip setup where everything is built for the track but can be on the street if the need/want arises... I am building the motor to run on pump gas but can up it if needed for the track. 496 BBC with roots blower is the combo...

I already have alot of parts that I have been collecting to put this drivetrain in my old G-body... But it is gone now... I was planning a 29.5x10.5" tire. I know these trucks can take more tire so may go to a W.

Sounds about like what I'd done. Collected parts for a g-body build and then sold it. Now I'm adapting what I have/can to my truck. ... minus the 1000hp big block ...

Good luck and choose wisely, that's a bunch of horsies to be contained ...

you dont need to cut the rear frame for bigger tires unless you just have to have a 33x15 tire on the thing. my buddys 67 is running low 5's in the 1/8 with the stock frame rails on a 315 radial.

Mine is kind of what your talking about . The truck is not finished but I plan on driving mine on the street some. I am using the stock framerails with alot of changes made. It will be a while before I am running but it takes alot of work and time to get the results you want.
