LS swap fuse box location

I'm about ready for the 5.3 swap into my '71 and I'm just curious about where you guys have put the fuse box for the engine wiring harness. I was thinking about putting it up in the left front by the left headlight, but now I'm second guessing that idea. Any ideas or pictures would be great. Thanks.

Re: LS swap fuse box location

I think I'm going to go ahead and mount mine up on the top of the left wheel well. I noticed that during hard rain I get water up behind the left headlight so probably not such a good idea to put my fuse box there. Thanks for your input guys

Re: LS swap fuse box location

Another question...What have you guys been doing for a switched ignition source for the engine fuse box? I've been reading that on my '71 I should not use the original coil wire since it has a built in resistor...even though I used it back when I did the HEI conversion.

So I can just run a new wire from that same terminal at the firewall to eliminate the resistor?

Re: LS swap fuse box location

I am looking into a swap like this and I was under the understanding that you only need a few fuses instead of the whole box.

Is this not the case for an ls swap?

Thanks for your input

Thumbs up Re: LS swap fuse box location

This is what came with my stuff. Complete wiring harness done.
I'm not 100% sure this is all u need but it's what came back after the harness was done for the install.

U probably already know this but just thought I would add it.
LSx motor swap link.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: LS swap fuse box location

Yep.thats what I'm talking about. I'll do the harness myself though. I like the Clean And clutter free look.
I guess I need to start a build thread. Its a 68 lwb cut to a swb

You are correct, I'm using an aftermarket fuse box that is designed for ls swaps. It includes relays for ignition, starter, and electric fans, and then fuses for the engine and a/c stuff if needed. But this fuse box still has to be wired to the truck for power.

Re: LS swap fuse box location

I know this is digging up an old thread. But I am wanting to remove the entire harness out of a 01 Silverado and swap it in my 87 V1500. I want to bring over everything I can. I plan to take fuel tank, steering column, instrument cluster, rearend, radiator, pretty much everything. I want to use the 01 harness to control my lights, pw, pwdl, everything and even use security system with key fob. Anyone have any insight on this? I have an entire donor truck minus door wiring and bed wiring.
