6" filter and a small rant

Another rant of mine. Well I'm Been driving my truck around with a friend's air cleaner bottom base because the Po somehow had the top filter housing bigger than the bottom which was making the k&n filter bulge out as it was sandwiched leaving a hole from the filter being bent.So I ordered a new filter which took me 2 weeks to do because I'm very picky and I'm on a budget.I scanned craigslist, bugged all my friends to see if they had one with no luck.Anyways I finally found a oval type that I liked and was cheap.I was wanting a oval one kinda like the contact jet 429s had back in the day so my engine bay wouldn't be a cookie cutter because everyone runs a round air cleaner under the sun. Well it came today after 2 to 3 days of waiting. I opened the box and guess what? Its just a filter element so I call amazon they refund my money right then while I'm on the phone and send me a link to print out a bar code to send it back.I drop it off and hit up advance then auto zone and finally O'Reilly's with no luck at all. I was looking for 14in or bigger and wanted the black edlerbrock round pro flow since none had the ovals.Got home checked summit and jegs and couldn't find anything, well nothing less than a 100 that I liked so after about 2 hours going between the sites I find one I can live with. Its nothing fancy or anything like that but its 14in wide and 6in high which should pull some in air.its more than I wanted to spend but I don't want my motor drinking threw a straw when it comes to air. It was 54 dollars with free shipping and it has a cotton filter like k&n plus the stud and wing nut.I love all the room under the hoods of these old trucks.I'll be running this filter sitting on top of a 1" spacer so it's nice a high. Not sure if I want to paint the air cleaner or not but I'm leaning towards a crinkle black.I got new tire rods and plugs for her.The shipping said my new filter won't be here till Monday which kinda sucks I'll be missing the weekend. Where I'm from needs a performance shop and the jets and summit sites could be a little more simple when it comes to filtering options. You click your engine or if you have a v8, v6 and click it the site only shows 30 filters but if you put it universal it has over 300.if you change it to Chevy or Ford or anything like that it only shows a few of the filters. You can't add to many filters or it starts deleting other filters for search options.

Oval air cleaners, eh!!
Like the old cobra jets and six pack mopars had.
Summit's a good place to search for something specific.
I search a bunch with 'google images'. A thousand images come up for oval air cleaners.
A cheap as 40 bucks for a nice ball milled one too.
Or get creative and make your own. I used some 1/16 inch aluminum, a jig saw, some files, some carb adaptors and made 3 oval ones years ago. One for my dual quad, one that was centered and one that was offset.
Give google images a try. Ask for anything you want and surf!!

I was thinking of getting one of the cheaper ones and having it powder coated in the wrinkle black and then grind off the powder coating off the fins.
