Stock Ralley Wheels--Settle this argument!

Having a disagreement---

I say Chevy did not offer any type of ralley wheel for the 67-72 Chevy line of trucks, just full wheel covers and those nice dog dishers! I say they offered the Rallyes from 73 and up

Friend says he seen tons of this era truck with them on and believes they were an option 70 and up. I agree many DO have this rim but I believe they are transplants.

Please settle this!!

Thanks

nejeff,
Sorry to hijack your post but I have a question for the ralley gurus'. What is the difference between the ralleys that have only a few larger "slots", vs. those ones that have many slots around the periphery. In other words are some truck ralleys and others car ralleys? If so which is which?

Mike I think the wheels with the larger slots are 6 lug and the smaller slots 5 lug.

Maybe truck verses van?
I never noticed myself.
Here's a twist I saw recently on a 80-something truck. Cop car wheels painted silver and all dolled up with center caps and trim rings.

The 5-lug truck Rally wheels are (stock) 15x8. I have a set of "van" Rallys on my '72 (what's "left" of my '72 ). They are 15x7. Both of those have about, if not exactly, the same size slots in them. They both have the 5-on-5 'truck' lug pattern.

I don't know about the 6-lug Rallys, other than they came on 1/2 ton 4x4s. They will bolt directly up to the older 6-lug pattern hubs ('60-what to '70). I'd like to have a set for my '66, but haven't really been looking.

I used to have a set of 'car' Rallys on my old '69 Chevelle. They were 14x6, but they were the 5 'slot' car type Rallys.

Gotta love those Chevy Rally wheels.

Hey Andy? I am not sure but I thought that truck and cars had different bolt patterns and therefore coulnt interchange? To me those wheels look like they came off a van but I am no expert on rallys.

As for the question as to wether or not rallys were original equipment on our trucks I agee they werent offered until 73 but I think they should have been cause they look cool as hell on them. I am looking for a set of 15x8 5 lugs with caps and rings for an extra set to use on my 71.

Probably ought to let longhorn answer for himself but...

The cop car wheels are, in fact, the same 5-on-5 lug pattern as our old trucks ('71 and '72).

That's what has always intrigued me about the 1LE Camaro option similarities, as well. See, the cop cars (Impalas specifically) use the 1LE "equivalent" and with the 5-on-5 lug pattern, well... all the better for my future intentions .

Cop cars have truck wheels. If your city/county/state still has old Chevy cruisers, look at the wheels real good, it's a 5 on 5 pattern.

That threw me off too, i took the picture and posted it asking WTF are these.

I have lots of these wheels, most are 15 x 8 5 and 6 lug. I also hThanks Steveave 15 x 7,s and a set off of a van that are 15 x 6 1/2. I also have a set of 6 lug 15 x 7's. The oldest set of rally's that i have are on a 72 and they have the bolts coming from the inside to hold the center caps on. UGLY caps. The nice ones have the bolts on outside of caps. These wheel also fit big GM cars like Impalas, ninety eight olds and big rigs like that have a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. About 7 years ago i met this man that had a nice cheyenne truck that he had restored and he had some ugly aluminum wheels off of a big lincoln that bolted right on. I have seen these wheels on chevy's since then. I still learn about these trucks every day.

Hey guys,
Got a question.
I know this thread has cooled off a few days, but here goes.
The 15X8 6-lug ralleyes are real common, and I tend to agree, only offered '73 -on, but I had a set of 15X7 6-lugs a while back.
What year were they offered, and what on?

Also, had a set of "car" ralleyes on an old '71 C-10 (5 on 5)
Finally figured out they came from an early 70's Caprice. (I think!)

BTW, a guy once told me if I wanted to use 4 3/4 on 5 wheels on my '71-'72, I could swap the 5 on 5 C-10 rotors for ones from a G-10 van. They are car (4 3/4 on 5) bolt pattern. I assumed the wheel bearings were the same, or some combo of bearings existed to allow this. Should work pretty well when trying to match up to a swapped in car rear end.

Mike

Original to '72 Blazers?
Well, I had often wondered that.
I reasoned, as tire sizes grew, so did rim width availability.
Early Blazers with 7", later ones, 8".
I have had more than a few people say '72 Blazers got the narrow ralleyes, and pickups didn't get ralleyes at all, till '73.
I do know 15X7 5-lug ralleyes were still on alot of pickups up till '77, and there are two different offsets in the 15X7 "van"ralleyes.

Actually, they did (do?) make 16 inch ralleys. They are on '88 and up IFS 4X4s (6 lug). The backspacing is wrong for '87 and older trucks though (5 1/2" vs. 3 1/2" for the older trucks). And they are only 6 1/2 inches wide.
