Need some help installing power steering pulley
I bought a new power steering pump and removed old pulley with a puller. I noticed it has a keyway on the pulley and can only go on one way. I would think since it is held on by a nut it would just push on and tighten nut. Mine is super tight and will not go down on shaft. Anyone run into this problem. I don't want to knock on the pulley and damage the pump. Anyone have any tricks to get it back on?Thanks

Re: Need some help installing power steering pulley
You can try putting your pulley in the oven at around 400* for about 20 minutes, then (using a gloved hand) quickly slide it on the shaft of the power steering pump. After it cools put the nut on. Just don't let your wife catch you putting car parts in the oven.

I just replaced the ps pump on my72 and put the pulley in the oven and pump in the freezer. (While my wife was at work.)

Re: Need some help installing power steering pulley
You need a power steering pulley installation tool. There are internal threads that help pull that pulley on with the right tool. That is one thing I did learn at NADC the proper tool for the proper job. Oh that and the school moto, get greasy easy! Jim

No internals thread on our pumps. I wish it did would be a piece of cake.
