Not to be a smart ass but personally I would buy a new one and keep that one in the glovebox. Brothers, lmc, etc. good luck!

Welcome to the board! I agree, you live right next door to Classic Industries, head on down there and buy a new one.

Re: 1970 chevy emblem
Just so you know, my repro emblem lost mostly all of it's blue in a very short time. (as well as pitted!) My truck lives outside though.
Just a heads up.

Re: 1970 chevy emblem
Recommend you buy a new one or search for one in better condition at a swap meet. There's plenty of them out there. I picked up one at the swap meet in Chickasha, OK last weekend for $15. It's pristine. Repros are about twice that amount, if not more.

Re: 1970 chevy emblem
No. No. No. No. NO!
Original is ALWAYS way better than re-pop. I restored mine but don't have any pictures handy. First CAREFULLY bend the pot metal ears holding the once blue center in place. You WILL break some but that's ok you don't need them all and nobody will ever know. ANY medium blue, metallic spray bomb "automotive touch up" spray can will work for the center. Sand it with care then give it a coat or two of a light color spray bomb primer then top coat with the medium blue metallic spray bomb. The outer part can be chrome polished on the chrome and plastic polish the plastic the best you can. The only way anybody will know you didn't buy a new re-pop is 5-10 years from now when your restored OEM emblem doesn't have peeling chrome and yellow plastic

Re: 1970 chevy emblem
mrein3,
No argument on the benefits of restoring over buying a reproduced one, if the old one is in restorable condition. Given the picture provided, that piece is not restorable and will only detract from the vehicle's appearance, especially if they do a quality repaint. The cracks in the plastic are not repairable and no amount of chrome polish will remove the pitting in the chrome. Note: 00000 grit steel wool works wonders on old chrome/stainless. Wet sanding and buffing plastic will restore it to like new clarity.

Re: 1970 chevy emblem
Never tried it before on the surface of an emblem but maybe a can of Blue Stained glass paint? I used red once on the inside of a tail light lens to make it darker on one of my motorcycles, the more you coat it the darker it gets...

Re: 1970 chevy emblem
I made myself an emblem out of rosewood for my 70. I may modify and make a new one. I am also considering making c/10 logos out of rosewood to match...
But then again I am a woodworker. |

I have the hockey puck style and they are only available NOS for alot of money so I put on some 3.95 repro stepside back up light lenses which were a perfect fit, only clear of course. Now, to find a can of this stained glass paint!

Re: 1970 chevy emblem
I'll do some testing on a scrap lens first. I was thinking I might have to spray the outside with the amber color and a coat of clear over that to protect it.
Truck will live in a garage so should last. Thanks,
