Repop products to avoid?

I'm very new to the Blazer game, and this is the first project vehicle I have had. In doing a lot of reading around here, a lot of guys have criticized the quality of certain repop products as being ill fitting, poorly made, etc.

If you have gotten anything like this, I'd like to hear what the product was and who made it, so I know what to avoid.

Re: Repop products to avoid?

I bought a pr. of sport mirrors from Eckler's and the finish on the bases pitted up within a month. Backs of the mirrors are stainless and look fine. Finish went bad and the Jimmy never left the shop. Probably get the same mirrors from several dealers so I'm not knocking Eckler's. Many repro. parts are made in the same factory and distributed by different dealers.

Re: Repop products to avoid?

Not a fan of the "factory" style rubber floor matt, the lmc door panels are made of cheap halloween costume quality plastic and the lmc rear bumper is already rusted out after only 2 years... I can't complain too much, it is all cheap stuff, but those items i would have spent more on if i knew the quality was that bad.

Re: Repop products to avoid?

Ive heard the reproduction rear hatch is nowhere near a "bolt on and go" part.

IwantaK5, do you have the full blazer mat? ive been debating dropping the $350 on it and have been on the fence. I would love a photo or two if you have it??

i have this matt... http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/full.aspx?Page=112
I bought the "right" one for my truck and it took a heat gun and some stretching just to get it to fit as badly as it does now and only after a couple years it is all dry rotted and cracking.

LMC - Ignition Cylinder / Key set – $20 and went right into the trash can.
LMC - Ash tray bezel plate for the center console - $45 and looks nothing like the original. Ended up tossing it in a box and not using.

Re: Repop products to avoid?

I had some bad weatherstrip from chevy duty when they were open. I've been buying my weatherstrip from brothers trucks lately and haven't had a problem. You really have to watch as weatherstrip is farmed out from these companies and a lot of it is good and just don't go with the cheapest one is all I'm sayin. Cheaper isn't always better.

Re: Repop products to avoid?

All '72 inner door panels are junk. Completely different shape than stock. Ask me how I know. Some vendors have stopped selling them all together. Another problematic repop piece is the outter grill shell. I've read and heard that the repop grill shells do not match the contours of the fenders, and leave a big gap between grill shell and fender. There are many more crappy repop parts, but these two stand out in my mind.

Chevyduty isn't closed GM just made them change their name so they are known as Classic Parts for the past few years

I wouldn't buy any rubber window seals/gaskets from LMC. They are made in China and should be sent back there.

Re: Repop products to avoid?

The best thing anyone can do to assure good quality parts is to use a vendor that knows and restores these trucks. That way you buy from someone who actually knows. I personally use Wes Hepp at Classic Heartbeat. He has never done me wrong and will tell you the quality of the part. Honesty and experience. http://www.classicheartbeat.com/
Not saying other vendors are dishonest, but some Know and some Dont.

Re: Repop products to avoid?

Avoid Reproduction Fan Shrouds from Brothers. Purchased a Big Block Fan Shroud from them. While the fit was OK and resembled the OEM, It was far cry from the quality of the OEM piece coming in market price of $150.00 While the function of it will work it is still very cheaply made from low grade molded plastic. Market price for this should have more like $50-$65.
