Newbee with a 64 step side
Just a quick note to let everyone know I have just bought a 64 chev sb step side. I'm not new to trucks. I also have a 40. I have had a 46 and 50 and years ago I had a 65 fleetside. That one has stuck in my head ever since. I even still have the 63 manual with the 65 supplement. I guess I knew someday I would come back. HA.

Thanks for the replys. It has a 305 with the original trans behind it. There was a floor shift conversion, but the linkage was all messed up, so I installed a new floor shift. Looks like the springs have been cut not replaced, like I was told. It has a new windshiedl and radiator along with reupholstered seat. The body has the usual rust areas, not horrible but bad enough to need attention in the future. Wiring was a joke. The ground cable from the bat. to the starter was a 8ga wire. Got that fixed first. HA. I got some oak planks in the deal the guy had cut for the bed. They need to be fitted though. The flames are a real good quality, but done a long time ago. I think I will leave them alone for now. It has that patine look. HA. I plan on putting ps and pb on it. I have a newer steering column, but I would like to keep the original column if I can fix the slop in the bushings. It is just a driver and I plan on keeping it that way. I still have to put my 40 pu back together, so I don't want 2 trucks apart at the same time. Plus I need to freshen up my 39 Pontiac street rod someday. I wish these vehicles would stop following me home!

Looks good. My first truck was a '66 fleet longbed. I still have the manual for it..... I cannot get over these trucks either. I just need to get one and stop thinking about it.

Madrat I have seen your build pictures. You are doing a great job. In my younger days I would spend all free hours in the garage. I built a 65 GTO, a 70 GTO, 50 chev pu, 51 Pontiac catalina custom rod and a 39 Pontiac coupe street rod (still have it 20 years) plus a few others that were just drivers. I have a 40 chev pu that needs finished also. These days I just like to build drivers without worring about looks too much. I wish I still had the energy you have doing your build. Keep it up.
