Is the '87 paint stripe reproduced?

Does anyone offer this factory stripe? I have searched but havent found anything. I actually want a stripe that looks factory, but not red.

Re: Is the '87 paint stripe reproduced?

When I did my 87 LWB 4wd, I took it to a local sign shop( Before I started striping it), they took pics and measurements, and reproduced it for me, in the color I wanted. It only cost me 65-70.00 bucks

Re: Is the '87 paint stripe reproduced?

What color(s) is it? I think the "red" is vermillion, only problem is vermillion was paired with either Dark Carmine (73A), Light Slate (75A), and Black (77A). If you can ID the second color (or just get me the RPO) I can give you the factory part numbers for the stripes and you can start searching.

Should be "Light Slate" on the stripe in this case, by being paired with the "silver" inset paint color (and judging by the photo).

Re: Is the '87 paint stripe reproduced?

Thanks for the info guys. I was kind of thinking about changing the color of the stripe. The truck is dark blue and steel grey (code 90 I believe). I'll get more pics and info when I pick it up this weekend. The stripes are good, so I may just leave them, I just hate the red stripe on a blue truck.

Re: Is the '87 paint stripe reproduced?

Just call a local body shop and find out who does their vinyls on cars, they'll be able to create you any sort of stripe in any color you want.

Stripes are one NOS part I'd stay away from to be honest. Nothing like a 20 year old vinyl stripe that's been curled up in a small box all of its life.

Re: Is the '87 paint stripe reproduced?

Take it to a sign shop while it's still on. Get what color height whatever you want and then change it. It'll fit right since they can measure it good and your color! Win win!

Pretty.

I've mentioned this before, but - just for fun -

When those stripes came into the plant they had a protective masking on them.

The stripes were applied to the vehice while it was still in primer. The secondary (inset) color was sprayed on the body side first.

Then, after baking (300 deg for 1/2 hour) the inset area was taped off with butcher paper and the primary color was applied - all over the rest of the truck, inside and out, including inside and out of the pickup box. The truck was baked again at 300 deg for a half hour.

When the paper and protective covering of the stripe were removed - VIOLA! Two tone paint job.

The adhesive body side moldings were applied on the Final line, about a day later, to complete the effect.

Re: Is the '87 paint stripe reproduced?

Thanks for that info Keith. I'm having the grey center repainted. The stripes are actually pretty nice (a couple of marks on the gate and one on passenger side). I have decided to keep the original look and leave the red. If I can find the nos ones I need I'll replace the gate and passenger bed side. I found the one for the gate last night.
