Running 18" rims on my 64. What size tire looks and works best on these???

Wondering what tires you all suggest for my 64 shortbox with 18" wheels. I'm doing a 2/4 drop. Is 255/55/18 a good size? Or is that a bit too much sidewall height?

255 55 18 would be the same height as a 235 70 15. That's as short as I would go on a truck. Personally, I think short tires look silly on trucks. JMHO, of course. Not a lot of choice in that size, though...

Any idea what the factory size was on these trucks?

The tires were Imperial. They work out to about 205 75 15.

Ok thanks jayoldschool.

I did some research and think I'll go with either 255/55/18 or 255/45/18. With the 2/4 drop I'm doing I'm leaning towards the 255/45/18. Whatcha think?

What width wheel are you going with?

One more thing... you will want to price 20" wheels and tires while you're shopping. They will be cheaper than 18s in most instances (both wheels and tires), and there will be much more selection in tires.

I have 18s on one of my cars, btw. Big rubber, though. 275 fronts, 295 rears.

295/45/18 For the rear at 28.31" tall most likely to get 235/50/18 at 27.24" front.

Before and after installing 1/2" Porterbuilt trailing arms. The tire is now center in wheel house.

Those look nice...I may go with the size you have on the rears...I think they will have a little more sidewall than the 255/45/18 I was thinking of correct?

Whoa! Maybe not...that seems to be a hard to find size. Only one tire available in that size at tire rack???

Re: Running 18" rims on my 64. What size tire looks and works best on these???

The 295/45/18 Nitto 555 specs are 28.31 tall 11.54 wide and are for 9.5-11"rims and hold good amount of weight. The 255/45/18 is 26.97(-1.34") x 10.16(-1.38") for 8-9" rim less load capacity. The side walls will be smaller. I have 8s for front and 9.5 rears. They clear every thing. With the truck so low the trailing arm arc was pushing the axle forward and contacting the forward bedside. I have pictures on build thread. Discount Tire has a nice tire calculator and Nitto was my choice for that size, BFG did not have the 295/45. They stick like crazy glue. Spin them a little and they get grippe even with out the bed on.

I have 18" x 9" rims front and back with 255/55/18 tires in front and 295/55/18 tires in the rear. The rear height is about 29".

Truck looks good! Is it bagged? How much is it lowered? The fronts look great on your truck. I'm wondering if they will be too short of sidewall for only 2" drop in front of my truck.

In case you don't have a site that you use already, try this for comparing:

You are probably right. Wish I had the funds to bag it now actually. I like the stance when its all the way up. Do you know the height to the "V" of the body going in (or top of fender to where it meets the hood) I used that as a baseline for mine and in front its 35" in the front and 39" in rear without changing anything except dropping in a heavy big block. LOL So it's going to take 4" drop springs just to get the back level now.

Ok...I decided to go with Nitto NT555 Extreme's 255/45/18's front and rear on my truck. I hope the sidwall height is what I'm after...I think they will look good and the reviews I've read are good. Thanks for all the pics and suggestions guys.
