HEI guys I need an opinion
I was doing something under the hood completly unrelated and nowhere near my carb when I noticed my main HEI power lead (red 8ga from fuse block) had a really sh*tty bare and green spade connector on the coil end. I cut and replaced the end and when I fired the truck up the next day it seems my idle is 500 or so Rpm higher than it was before.
Is there any conceivable notion that having a stronger spark could bump my idle up? I checked my throttle linkage and it is not hanging up or sticking. I haven't been anywhere near the carb lately. It's a 600cfm edelbrock with mechanical secondary if it matters

Re: HEI guys I need an opinion
It's possible I guess. But that's a pretty good bump for just a better connection.

Re: HEI guys I need an opinion
Dizzy isn't lose. It seems to start easier too. Hmmph. Ill report back as I find more. I'm almost tempted to crimp the crappy end back on to see if it reverses the effect

Re: HEI guys I need an opinion
I could see that happening, a "bad connection" does not necessarily mean no connection at all. It could cause all kinds of problems, hard starting, missing, etc.

Re: HEI guys I need an opinion
Must have been crap stuck in the carb because it levelled back out after an hour or so of driving
