Practical Joke - Will It Work?

My buddy and I are both motorheads that like old trucks. We like to mess with each others vehicles. We never hurt them, we just make it a nuisance for each other.

His truck has an Eaton HO52. Could I pull the axle shafts, drop the drive line, and flip the whole carrier over? the bolt pattern is symmetrical.

Would this work? Or is there something in the housing that wouldn't let me do this?

I would finally be able to one-up him(he always seems to be the better thinker).

I would, of course, refill it with oil.

Completly agree with Mister-B.

Unless you are trying to possibly cost him a lot of $$$, I would not even try that, if it would even work.

What kind of things has he done to you?

Re: Practical Joke - Will It Work?

The O.P. clearly stated that this is an ongoing battle between friends, how about we don't judge what they do for fun and just answer the technical question? Does any one know?

I agree. That's funny right there, and wouldn't harm anything, and just might preserve the friendship. The other thing is hitting below the belt

Re: Practical Joke - Will It Work?

I once placed a small piece of wood under the gas pedal of my pastor S-10 he bought from me. His main complaint about the truck [2.2 liter auto extra cab] was its severe lack of power. Well once the "backwoods govenor was installed of course it ran perfect idled fine and even looked good on the Tech2 at the dealer. He was sick that it only would go about 40-45 out on the open road flat out. Of course I fixed it for him and then gave him the offending part. great fun. Jim

I don't believe I'd go to that much trouble unless he married my sister. I like the brake/horn idea though... Ha.

For that matter take a semi truck horn rig it under the seat and have a small air tank hooked to it. When he opens the door have it setup so that the horn will go off. I'm a bigger fan of the horn rigged on the break idea though.

Chain the rear end to a telephone pole.

How about rigging it to the start position on the key switch???

I don't see how it would cost him anything but but some RTV and oil.

Been there, done that.

That could cause more damage than flipping the carrier.

That's going way too far. We just do "easily" undo-able things.

Unplug his points or HEI wire, hide it under something with zip ties, then run a "fake" wire the same color to where that wire terminated to. He'll have fun with that one for a while.

Re: Practical Joke - Will It Work?

When i was in high school there was one kid from a rival school who had a late 80's 3/4 ton Chevy pickup. He would always "peel out" when leaving the gravel parking lot at the dance hall, throwing rocks on people and cars. Several of my friends wanted to cut his tires, but i talked them out of it, not wanting to do permanent damage, and to be more original. One night i went out during the dance and pulled the hubcaps, then the axles out of his truck and laid them and the bolts in the bed of his truck. then i put the hubcaps back on. At the end of the night he went to leave, fired the truck, revedit a couple times like usual, then dumped the clutch. Nothing. Reved again, nothing still (obviously). He hets out scratching his head, opens the hood, looks there and under the truck, hets back in, tries again, still the same, several of his buddies come over and look, someone mentions he probably broke a u joint, so he gets a flashlight and crawls under the truck. By this time everyone was leaving and stopped by to laugh. Only me and a couple of friends knew what i did. We decided to see if he could figure it out on his own. Since it was dark he didnt see the axls layong in rhe back. We eventually got bord and left. We found out later he never figured it out, got a ride home and called a tow truck the next day. Supposedly he tow driver saw the axles when he was about to hook it up and put them back in.

Re: Practical Joke - Will It Work?

Another high school prank was on one of our assistant football coaches. He was kind of a tool, fat guy always barking at us to hussle, double standard and all. He was super lazy and would park his junky toyota on the grass right by our locker room between two buildings anytime the head coach wasnt around to get on his ass about it. One day a bunch of us decided to see if we could wedge it between the two buildings by bouncing it and twisting at the same time. We got it about half way when the unibody couldnt take anymore and something broke. The front crossmember on the passenger side came loosse and wedged the tire against the firewall. We all freaked out and took off running in every direction! :Haha:

He ended up just junking the car as that was obviously a sign that it was unsafe. He badgered seceral of us butno one budged. We just kept telling him that we didhim a favor and probably saved his life!

Re: Practical Joke - Will It Work?

Another good one would be to run the windshield washer tube up under the steering column, wire it on so as soon as he tried to start the truck he would end up with wet pants. look like he pissed himself.

A balloon on the tail pipe is always worth a few laughs.

My bro was notorious for turning all electrics on (espically the radio) if you happened to leave your doors unlocked.

How about a full load of packing peanuts? The styrofoam kind.

Re: Practical Joke - Will It Work?

another fun one is a long zip tie around the driveshaft, every time it goes around the tail of the zip tie slaps the bottom of the truck and makes a noise. Another version of this is to tape or zip tie washers to the drive shaft to make it vibrate. Also the tip of a balloon on a spark plug, then plug the wire back on...

Re: Practical Joke - Will It Work?

I was walking into work from the parking lot one day and saw a flat wSher laying in the driveway. As I was walking by my boss' 99 chevy 1500, something possessed me to drop it over his radio antennae. It was just a spir of the moment deal. A fe days later he asked to take me to lunch as he wanted me to drive his truck and see if i cpuld figure out where this sound was coming for. As soon as i got on the highway you could hear rhis warbling metallic sound. I glanced over at the antenna and it was about 1' up from the bottom and spinning/ wobbling. I played dumb. (Easy for me) when we finished lunch he paid for both of us and i went out ahead of him and took the washer off without him seeing it. I told him i fixed it and he said "yea right, ive had it in two shops and no one could figure it out!" We took off and no noise! He asked me what i did and i told him hos valve stem caps were loose. He called bs but i jever told him otherwise as i felt guilty for pitting him through grief!

Wire the horn to the blinker is another good one.

I agree though, the axle idea is a little too much. Just my .02.
