Tranny Choices

Tranny choices behind a very mild 261.

I plan on building a mild 261 over the winter. Dual carb with tube headers, freshened up, nothing to wild.

Trying to decide on a tranny. Not tied to a manual, actually leaning towards a auto right now.

Advice?

Buffalo enterprises in Arlington, WA (360) 652-7684 for an adapter and stick a 700r4 behind it with 3:73's or 4:10's....happy driving, towing, fuel mpg's!

i'd do the 700r4 if you can bolt it in. you'll need to add side mounts to your motor to make it work.
otherwise your a long way from front motor mount and rear trans mount.
also nothing to keep the motor from torquing around in the engine bay.

Anyone have pictures of how they made the side mounts for this set up. I have a 235 with a 700r and was thinking this is something that should be done, would love to see how anyone else went about it. Thanks

Langdons Stovebolt Engine company also has adapters plus a lot of other nifty pieces like cast iron headers. http://stoveboltengineco.com/catalog...400&id=1396439

Later five speed over drive manual transmissions work pretty well too if you want to stay with a stick.

My choice was the SM420 with 3:38s in the rear.

I have a T5 behind my 235 with 4.10 gears and it has worked great. I can do 75 on the freeway no problem (well, stopping may be a bit of a problem). It's all going away though because I'm prepping for a frame swap w/ an LS motor + 4L60.

By the way, I have an SM 420 w/pto on it laying on my shop floor. If any of your are near Los Angeles, you are welcome to it. It drove fine-no noise, no issues.
