Chevy Steering Wheel to Column Help, Year?
I have a mid 70's van column I'm putting in my 49 AD. I like the style of late 60's and older wheels that have horn rings. I found a sweet steering wheel (add says it's out of a 1958 Chevy Custom Cab) but don't know if it will fit.
Question is if it will bolt up and if the wheel would cover the colum, it would look funky if the column was bigger than the wheel hub. Been searching the internet and can't seem to figure out the years colums and wheels were interchangeable or if adapters are available (other than Chevy to say Grant three hole wheels). |

Re: Chevy Steering Wheel to Column Help, Year?
The spines on the columns are all the same, but the column diameter changed in 69. I am going to be running a 59 impala wheel on a 78 chevy van column in my 59. I plan to just shave the 1/8 lip off the bottom of the wheel so it does not make contact with the column. Depending on the wheel, Ididit also makes an aluminum ring that you can epoxy to the bottom of your steering wheel to fill the gap.

Make a cardboard pattern and transfer it to light gauge sheetmetal like the aftermarket tilt columns do. I have seen guys use plastic and when it's painted nobody can tell.

Cool, thanks for the repsonse. I just didn't want to buy a wheel and find out it had a different splide count. If that works the rest can be figured out.
