Engine swap question
After I get done with all the body and suspension on my truck, I am going to do an engine swap. Right now it has a TBI 305, and I am going to swap to a 350 with a th350 trans. Since I won't be using the tbi anymore with the new engine, can I discard all of the computer and wiring?
The truck is an 87 R10 305 with what I am guessing is a 700r4 trans. Also will the trans support be the same for the 700r4 as the th350? |

Re: Engine swap question
The trans crossmember should work just have to move it and drill new holes. But why not keep the 700r4 so you have a overdrive gear?

Re: Engine swap question
The 305 will probably get thrown in the corner of the garage for hard times...haha
I have always heard/read that the th350 is easier/cheaper to build to hold hp than the 700r4. |

Re: Engine swap question
If you plan to drive the truck much I would build up the T700R4 a bit.
I drive at 3000rpm at 65 with my C20, and a od with fix that issue. |

Re: Engine swap question
If the truck is going to be a daily driver i would keep the 700r4 for the overdrive,And less work just swapping a engine vs trans and changing the drive shaft. If the 350 is stock the 700r4 should be fine the way it is.But if you plan to have more power spend some and have the 700r4 built up.Look at you can build one up pretty mean cheap,Monster trans has rebuild kits around 800 bucks and 600 foot pounds rated.

Re: Engine swap question
Doing some reading, it looks fairly easy to convert the 700R4 to run without a computer. I may just build it instead of switching to a TH350

Re: Engine swap question
700R4 is not computer controlled unless you mean the lock up switch. i would keep the tbi and all put it on the 350.
