Delmo-worthy truck...help me find one!

Everybody knows that Delmo makes some of the sickest trucks, and he usually posts a glorious thread here for us to drool over. I have decided that it's time to have Del resurrect a truck for me....amazingly, that is the easiest part of the equation. The hard part is finding the right truck that is worthy of real estate in his shop.

I'm looking for an OG paint 58-59 apache/GMC short step, BBW. I would post in the WTB section, but this is more than a WTB, this is a mission. I need the eyes of my people to scour the earth for the limited-cancer-yet-patina'd goddess of all-original glory. If anybody has a lead on one, I would be very grateful!

Due to the harsh climates in other parts of the country, it is probably going to come out of the California/Arizona region, but crazier things have happened.

I understand that everyone is looking for these...but in this instance, you will know that this jewel is going to truck heaven..Burbank. Help your local farm-fresh Apache reach its destiny.

Welcome to the board.
Not to ruin your great first thread and passion for a cool old truck,... you have to be a subscribing member to post a WTB thread.

Point taken! I suppose I'm looking for a shove in the right direction more than I'm asking for a member to offer to sell me their truck. Is that still a WTB? I want to make sure I'm not breaking rules...i'm hoping someone finds a gem on CL and can throw a link my way, or a phone number to a guy, that type of thing.

I'm happy to! I'd been lurking long enough I think, and paying for bandwidth should definitely be a community effort. Although I'm going the buy-it vs. build-it direction right now, I know I will need the guidance of this forum and its members when I finally have the time and space to bring life to an old truck. Reading The Astronauts builds gets me super pumped to start cutting and welding something!

If a member helps me find "the one" I will definitely make sure they are involved in the build somehow.. maybe they will get PM's with a bunch of extra pictures!

Have you already talked to Delmo or Nate Porter?
They seem to have a knack for finding these trucks,...

Del is definitely keeping his eyes peeled for me when he has time...I honestly don't know how he does it. Building multiple trucks at once while attending shows and Bonneville, etc, etc... I didn't think to hit up Nate... I should definitely do that!

Yes sir. Price is going to vary, but ideally it hasn't been customized yet so i doubt the price will exceed $7k...You never know I guess. If someone found one and cleaned it out, threw some bed wood in and nice wheels and tires, and spruced up the six to make it a daily, thats still a worthy candidate and I could sell the unneeded parts to someone on this board for dirt cheap.

I will definitely do that... checking out his past rides, it wouldn't be the first time Boris let go of a clean truck !

I'm pretty sure this is the same truck that Sam adopted!

I totally agree. Del's builds are awesome to watch... I wish I had the time and space to build my own! I have tons of respect for guys who build their own rides, and I'm absolutely that kind of guy. You deserve the "thumbs ups" way more than I do!! I just love classics and I don't want to wait 10 or 15 years before I get to own and drive my dream truck. Besides, I will fill that bench seat up with family, and I feel much safer sitting on Del's welds than the spilled popcorn that my welds would looks like.

I spoke to Boris aka Way2Low2 today... that is one cool guy. You truck heads around OH are lucky to have his shop as a resource for good work...and mad respect for offering forum members a special deal on air-ride setups.

He is going to keep a look out for me, and in exchange, I will investigate any Sacramento-area Craigslist finds he is interested in and send him tons of pictures. I think between all of us, we could have every long-distance Craigslist ad personally inspected!

This will be fun to watch. I like all the trucks Delmo has done. Can't wait to see what truck will get picked.

Thanks for the referral Coralhead! I'm really looking for a BBW, OG paint short step, so this one wouldnt quite make it, but would be a nice project for a forum member!

Re: Delmo-worthy truck...help me find one!

i was looking through parts auctions on eBay and I spotted a seller with a bunch of trucks pictured in the background of a part he was selling... I've contacted him for more photos but he sounds like he may have a truck that fits the bill.. stay tuned! In the meantime, if anyone drives by a farm and spots a 58/59 BBW short step with OG paint, lets get it rescued.

Re: Delmo-worthy truck...help me find one!

Never heard back from the spy-photo seller on eBay... did you all buy the remaining untouched trucks on earth? If I could just find myself on the right country backroad when the right barn door swings open...I don't want to cut up the Jackalope, so ya gotta help me guys!!

I did mention the finder's fee of exclusive pictures and updates. I know you all love the build photos almost as much as your own wives!
